    Hi,

Can anyone recommend some decent, realistic horror films. I've seen most of the usual teen slasher films, Freddy, Jason etc, and to be honest they do nothing for me.
I recently watched 28 Days Later, and Deathwatch, and they have given me an appetite for more, esp. 28 Days. I've got the Ring as well, which I liked a lot. I do prefer the more realistic style of these sorts of films, as opposed to some nutter wandering around in a hockey mask etc.

Grateful for any advice anyone can offer.

    Thanks

    Ollie

Head of State with Chris Rock and Bernie Mac.

One of the most horrific movies I've ever endured, catch the review soon....

If your looking for realistic horror as oppose to fantasy I'd suggest you watch unusual Horror/thriller type films like these:-

    Audition
    Devils Backbone
    Dark Water
    Day Of The Beast
    The Excorcist
    Se7en
    Frailty
    Jacob's Ladder
    Mothman Prophecies
    The Eye
    My Little Eye
    Ravenous
    Session 9
    Uzumaki
    The Wickerman

That'll keep you going for a while.

"The Haunting" (original '60s version) just out on R1. showed it a few nights ago to two horror "afficianados" who had never seen it (!) and they crapped themselves. Genuinely spine chilling.

And the above mentioned "Dead of Night" is a little gem - as is "The Queen of Spades" the title it is paired with on a R1 double bill.

"Night of The Demon (longer cut) /Curse of the Demon". Both UK ("Night of...") and US cuts of the movie on a single R1 disc. Brilliant movie.

As you are looking for decent, morerealistic horror films, as opposed to the slasher gore style, i would suggest the following:

The Shining - great film but DVD sucks
    Mothman Prophecies
    Alien
    The Thing

Also, the Quatermass series can be affective, considering its age.

    Creepers
    The Rainbow and the Serpent
Tenebrae (er, spelling maybe wrong on that one)
    Terror at the Opera
    Alien
    Psycho
    The Exorist
    The Omen
    Near Dark

That should also keep you busy for a while....
