Mailbox Movies are very good, and are the cheapest (used to be by a few quid, but now only a few pence), although their site did go down for a few days a wekk back or so. Other than that I have had no problems.

p.s. If you do decide to sign up, please put 'strange' into the referral box. I already had a mate sign up but he forgot, so now I need 3 people instead of two for my free months rental.

    Serpico,

I've heard that DVDsontap can be quite slow at sending out films. How long have you been using them, and have you experienced this?

There's a similar company in the US called NetFlix, and it seems that frequest renters are penalised when it comes to getting the latest releases. They are often told that there is a wait for these films, but signing up a new account gets the film to you almost immediately. So it's not a stock problem, and seems more like a bias to either new customers, or infrequent renters.

Any signs of anything like this with DVDsontap?

Bursar, normally when I return a movie the next available film on my list is sent the following day and received by me th eday after. A couple of weeks ago the process became extended by an extra day. I queried dvdsontap and they said that their local sorting office has been struggling to cope with their expansion, but that steps were under way to improve this at the PO end.

The only other quibble I've had is sometimes waiting two months for the movie at the top of my list to be sent. But the whole thing is such good value that it seems churlish to moan.

I've just left www.DVDsontap.co.uk after six months of membership. They used to be good but in the last 6 weeks they have become poor.

they now take 3 days to send out my next dvd (I send monday. They receive tuesday, they think about it wednesday and send it out on thursday, I get it friday) I dont know if this is deliberate but is now the norm. Also they have nothing in stock it would appear. My list is 60 titles long. For the past month I have got titles from 35 downwards. The titles above are all mainstream, ie close encounters, good will hunting, etc. DVDsontap, may have cash flow problem and cant buy any new dvd's.

Anyway. I moved to www.in-movies.co.uk and they seem ok at them moment........

I guess there's no harm in moving around between them and getting 14 days free from each one ;)

I've been with dvdsontap for a month. Have to say that delivery has been spot on, but agree about the stock. I have about 50 queued on the 2 films at a time tarrif, but nothing above 20 is being delivered at the moment.....maybe I should move the top stuff to the bottom of the queue!

    Noone's mentioned

    dvdoptions.com

I've used them twice now - both times no complaints - although it can be difficult getting new releases.
They have a half price deal for the first month for new customers.

I've also tried in-movies.co.uk and I thought they were a bit slower than dvdoptions but really very similar. Also difficult with new releases.

Well, in my first week at dvdsontap they've sent me The Bourne Identity and Men In Black II, so they're not doing too badly so far :)

    woohoo!

If only my mate had remembered to do that then I would have month free by now. Oh well.

Mailbox Movies now have a forum, which is gradually expanding, and is quite good. They are undergoing a big expansion of titles.

Well I'm three weeks into my membership and I'm undecided whether to remain a member. I like their selection of movies. They have a few more than dvdsontap. Their support is as good as dvdsontap, BUT the condition of most of the disks I've received leaves a lot to be desired. I have had 4 that wouldn't play past a certain point, and many more than looked like they'd been used as a dog toy.

In cotrast, dvdsontap's disks are mirror like.

I was with DVDsOnTap, but when I sent by second film back to them, I'm not sure what happened. Either it got lost in the post or they lost it at their end. But either way, a week after I returned it, they were still showing it as outstanding on my account.

A few emails sorted it out, and I got it all wrapped up before my free trial expired, and I cancelled my account.

I signed up with MailboxMovies, and things seem to be running much more smoothly so far. My first film was dispatched the same day I signed up, and my next films were sent out the same day that the previous ones arrived back with them.

I've only had a couple of discs from them so far, but they've been OK. I guess damaged media is a problem that all rental companies face. What really matters is how they deal with it. Ideally they should remove badly scratched or cracked discs from their inventory and replace them.
