Hi, I'm after a pair of floorstanding speakers to go as the fronts for a home cinema setup. They need to be magnetically shielded as they will be within a foot of the TV, and preferably around the £100 price tag. The only ones I've found that match the criteria so far are the Mission M37s. Any reccomendations/suggestions?

I've got a set of M73's. I couldn't say how well they compare to other speakers but I am very pleased with them. Like you, I needed them to be shielded and choice was limited but I don't regret buying them.

The M73's IMO are the only floorstander worth considering for that price. They will simply demolish the opposition.

Actually gramatically saying m73s is correct ... a single speaker is a m73, so multiple of them are m73s. Saying m73's is incorrect becuase by putting an apostrophe in you are implying that something belongs to the m73 ... i.e. the m73's cable or similar.

PS. Meant to say ... I just tend to say 1 m73,2 m73, etc ... saves confusion!!

Have a listen to the Wharfedale Diamond 8.3. IMO slightly better than the Missions.

They might be better but are not magnetically shielded.

Make sure you listen to the missions though, just because they are basically your only option at the moment you might not like the sound of them. Where have you seen them for £100, sounds like a good price to me!?

I have the bookshelf version of the mission M73s (mission m72) and I'm really impressed with them for the price, I think I got mine for about £90. It really makes me wonder why people spend £180 on computer speakers when you can get a proper hi-fi amp and speakers for the same price.

The missions are a bit harsh sounding, and obviously not the best in the world, but for a rock fan as myself the big rich bass is good and frankly they offer a really good all round sound, they work really nicely with films. I've got an amp with small satellite surrounds and with a little bit of playing and the centre turning up the balance is nice. Not too great for surround sound audio I don't think.

(phew, finally got round to registering)

I think you'll find they are or my telly would be green by now.

Well my old Diamond 8.2s werent shielded, as my telly did go green. Although if they are no closer than a foot away, they'll be fine.

Actually they are nice sounding speakers for the money....

I honestly think your asking for the nigh on impossible by saying you want "good" floor standers for £100 tbh but I'd agree with the others in that the missions are about your only option at this price, they are ok for the money I guess, big box, plenty pf bass for your cash but they arn't particularly musical but if your primarily using them for home cinema which from what you have said I assume you are then I doubt that'll bother you. Oh incidentally I used to have some ;) so I do know, didn't keep them long though mind.
