After working for a few weeks I got several failures on disk burns wih Nero 5.5.9 and a Sony DW-U10 burner.

I reinstalled Nero under XP but Nero only recognises the drive as a CD writer and not as a DVD writer. The drive itself still works fine but only for reading DVD and CD content.

I've now reinstalled Nero several times, different versions, and done 'Autodetect CD ROM'. It finds the right burner, and XP says its working OK.

Can anyone suggest a cure? I've sort of come to the conclusion that it's an XP problem rather than a Nero problem. It's as if XP is saying its a ROM drive.

    Thanks

    Paul

Good point - I don't know & don't think so - would I have had to install this separately at the time and should I do so now?

    thanks

Thanks Neilo - I'll try it asap. Do you think it should just be an extra item somewhere on the original install disk that I have missed? I was only reinstalling Nero, not all the other extra items like the Disk Labeller etc

    thanks

Has the DVD drive been correctly picked up and installed by XP during the setup process? You say your machine correctly reads CD's & DVD's, but have you ever had it writing to them?

Was just a thought, but it could be that XP has installed the incorrect driver for your drive during setup. I was under the impression that Nero just scanned the device manager of the PC in order to see what features would, and wouldn't be enabled?

I could just be talking drivel, but it may be worth a look... ;)
