Can a PAL DVD RECORDER work over in the states?

Does anyone know if you can use a standard PAL UK DVD Recorder over in the states? I actually sold one recently and I did message the person if he was aware it was PAL as in USA their region is NTSC but now they've got it and they're saying there's no picture. I did test it so I know it to be fully working with picture over here in the UK. Could it be something to do with the region? Anyone know?

The DVD Recorder in question is the Panasonic DMR-E85H.

Welcome to the forum.

There are all kinds of ifs and buts and many reasons why it will not work.

Firstly. this unit has an input voltage of 220-240 V only 50Hz supply.
It wont work on a 120 volt 60Hz supply.

If that problem could be overcome, It is set to region 2 so discs probably will not play over there.

It will be set to PAL output and needs to be set to NTSC output to have any chance of a picture.
Obviously one cannot go into menus to do that as there is no picture.

So there is a shortcut way to toggle between PAL / NTSC:

Whilst in the stop mode, on the main unit press and hold the stop button and the open/close button simultaneously for five seconds.
