camcorder not working properly

I have a 2 year old JVC camcorder which has worked really well until recently. I last used recorded something in September, no problem, then put the camcorder away until yesterday. It now objects to recording visual information. It still plays back without any fuss, but when I try to record it tells me to remove the lens cap despite the fact that it is not there. The lcd screen stays black, but the audio is recorded normally.

Any suggestions for a self fix?

Alternatively, any suggestions for what the problem might be and the cost of repair by a professional?

Cheers.

I've not yet contact JVC (wanted to wait until the busy period of Christmas and NY was out of the way). I plan to try them on Monday.

Hi
We have same problem with our camcorder so thanks for the tip about the website. Slightly worried as it says they will only repair them up to end of 2007. Have you had any luck with getting a repair yet?
