Cambridge DACmargic and airport express

I have just rigged up a Cambridge DACmagic to my system - so working fine on the optical input from the CD player
But I use an airport express to stream music to the amp. I have connected up the USD output from the airport express to the USB input of the back of the DACmagic - chained the in in put to usb and ... nothing

The iMac tells me that my airport express is not now attached to any external speakers - any suggestions?

Uses for the USB port of Time Capsule, AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express

The USB port is not designed for connection to speakers, as per the link I posted. Printers or hard disks only, I'm afraid.

wow - so how can I most effectively connect - what other optical connection can be used ?

There is an optical connector built into the 3.5mm jack, according to Apple. A suitable adaptor would give you a TOSlink optical output.
