Going to add a stereo amp via the preouts of my Yamaha receiver into my system....
Sources are Nad C545BEE cd player and Linn Axis turntable...
Front speakers are MS Mezzo 6 floorstanders....
Think I've narrowed it down to 2 either the new Roksan Kandy K2 or the Cambridge Audio Azur 840A V2 opinions please......??????
Or am I missing something else in the sub £1000 class ?
Bear in mind if the wife can't hear an improvement over the Yamaha RX-V1900 I could be getting divorced lol

Get a stereo Power Amp? Use the Pre-Amp in you Yamaha, allows you to get more for your money IMO.

The cyrus amps have unity gain as does the audiolab s8000 and i belive the rega mira also does! Go and demo, i did and bought the CA 840 but in fairness i didnt listen to the rega.

Im of the opininion that your better using and intergrated with unity gain as the pre amps tend to much better in the dedicated stereo amps but a power amp is more straight forward and woulds still give you better preformance

Buy the CA and take it along to the Roskan audition, buy or return as suits your ears?

Get a decent stereo amp with a unity gain as mentioned (and a decent phono stage).

I really don't think you are getting the best out of your Linn and CD putting them through the Yamaha.

If you use the Yamaha for AV then the unity gain through the stereo amp will improve your sound too.

A piece of wire has unity gain. An amp with the gain of unity will be like a piece of wire.

Unless "Unity Gain" has gained another meaning, what is the point of buying a unity gain amp?

*Unity Gain* is where the input to the stereo amp (usually using the AV input) by passes its own volume control. This means when listening to the AV amp you can use the stereo amp for the front left and right and set the volume levels for the speakers using the AV amp. It saves adjusting the volume on the stereo amp every time you switch sources.

Ah, I see. So bypass the pre-amp section of an integrated. Not really unity gain though.

Your first link doesn't even mention unity gain.

The second link explains it perfectly.

At the bottom, last line of text.

    :suicide:

I understand that an amp can have an AV/HT direct which bypasses its volume control, but when used like this the amp doesn't have unity gain, it has the gain of its power amp section.

Why is the K2 better than the 840A?

Presumably the CA will work better for you then in your system. Good choice old chap.

    Cheers
