Cambridge Audio Azur 540R 5.1 question

Hi All

I have just bought a Cambridge Audio Azur 540R AV Amp.

I am using it with my Mission Cinema 7 speakers package and REL Strata III Sub

I used to use it with a 5 year old Sony AV Amp which only supported up to 5.1 DTS and DD.

I know the 540R supports 6.1 DD EX and has 6.1 Direct mode.

What I am asking is, how do I configure the 540R to just output 5.1 surround sound modes such as DD or DTS or use 5.1 Direct mode ? instead of it trying to use the 6.1 extra rear speaker and I assume divert some sound from other speakers to the non-existent one ?

Is this possible ? or do i have to go buy an extra centre speaker for the rear and use 6.1 modes, which would be a hassle since I don't have an appropriate location for it.

It should do it automatically as long as you have set it up to only 5.1 output in the speaker selection as it has no auto detection.

the manual is truly dreadful, but i do think it includes this.

simply connect up all your speakers, and then press spk setup on the remot. You can then toggle all speakers from Large>Small>None (except L and R's can't be "none" for obvious reasons). Just set the "BS" (Back Surround) to None.

Also when watching films you have to manually select 6.1 anyway, by pressing the DD EX, DTS ES button, i have yet to watch a dvd where the EX flag has worked, but its no big deal.
