Needed to quickly replace the mrs 3 door c3 convertible as I got brain damage at hospital in January she has to now do all the driving.
As I'm also out of work due to said brain damage finances are tight!
Anyhow we picked up a 2004 5 door renault Megane 1.6 auto from a garage last Monday.
Oh £1500 80k miles. Says fsh
I get there and the sh isn't complete and no proof Cambelt was done at the required 4 years or 70k.
I me think it and all the salesmen say its been done let me look for receipt, anyway various excuses come up, such as the owner is a professor he's trustworthy he told me himself be had it done. I said gime his number i call and ask which garage done it. Then another salesman says they just got it straight from the dealers.
Anyway we get promised its been done, I asked for £200 off to get Cambelt done right away but again promised its been done.
Now during this debate between me and the 3 sales guys I'm basically being laughed at like I'm being over paranoid by the salesguys, my mrs and her dad who was there.
I said to the mrs and her dad well if you trust them and your happy its upto you. They decide they trust them and take the car, they even go as far as saying trust me its been done, get it checked if you don't believe us, if it hasn't been done, ill do it for £150. But it's been done I can tell by the engine noise. Now I wanted to say you can't tell by the engine noise but I'd already been made to feel rude etc by asking so many questions and wanting to walk away.
Anyhow last night as the mrs was driving up the hill the Cambelt failed. She pulled over rang me, I thought perhaps coil pack had gone, so said call AA if it is coil pack there's a new one in the boot (common problem)
AA says cambelts gone.
All I've wanted to do is shout told you so! However I will be on a sex ban so I won't say that.
The cars an auto I believe this may reduce damage.
Were ringing garage today to see of they're prepared to repair or refund.
Car was purchased using debit card so also have option of trying a chargeback if they'd dont play ball.
Will keep updated. Never know they may be a good garage
