The Blumhouse output keeps on trucking with this new thriller from director Daniel Goldhaber. Set in the world of webcam porn, one 'cam girl' finds her life spiralling out of control after a doppelganger takes over her account. Isabelle Link-Levy stars. Out in a few short days, this looks well worth a look -

Lola has a doppelganger who has highjacked her online cam girl account. Sleazy, twisted and a little bit too nasty. I really struggled with this one. I couldn't empathise with the lead, and her dark online world at all. The palette, although appropriate to the environment, is a very often a hideous neon pink colour, and something I was happy to leave by the end credits. I suppose the pay off is a little different, but it's not enough to save this trash. Avoid, and don't be seduced (like I was) by the Blumhouse tag. Bargain basement Netflix.

2/10

7/10? They must have been watching a different movie from me. I struggled to find almost anything to like in this.

Seems popular

I just finished watching it and
I didn't understand the ending. To be fair to the movie, I like the concept of an identity being stolen by a doppelganger, but it seems that the concept was not resolved. Deleting an old webcam account only to create a new one? How does that stop the doppelganger from taking over once again?

I think her doppleganger was a digital algorithm based on her existing profile, and so was destroyed when she deleted her account. The algorithm could arise again of course, but i think that is what the film is illustrating: The unexpected dangers lurking in cyberspace. On a metaphorical level, I think its also showing that we all have an 'alternative' personality that comes across online, and that it isn't always aligned with our 'real' personalities and can cause damage to us in the real world (look at how people's careers are destroyed via their twitter activity).

As for the sex angle, the filmmakers have said they didn't want to disparage people who work in that sector, which is why she resumes her camgirl work at the end (under a different account).

I thought it was an interesting enough little film, although it felt distinctly 'made for Netflix', it reminded me of a Black Mirror episode expanded. Some interesting ideas on its mind, solid main performance, nice aesthetic; its fine. Doesn't deserve the praise its getting though IMO. Ending doesn't pack much of a punch except for that slightly unpleasant
nose-breaking
scene. I didn't get the sense of satisfaction they were probably aiming for. 6/10 for me.

I wouldn’t re-cam-mend it TBH.
