Battle of Britain was one of my remaining top 5 to be released - so glad to pre order this one.

No remastered sound, few if any extras, but it will be worth £9.99 to have a mint OAR version of this great film:)

    Hi Shaun,

I don't think you could call The Flight Of The Phoenix a war film, even if Hardy Kruger is in it! Unfortunately it appears to be on DVD in 4:3 and not widescreen. When will they ever learn?

I seem to remember 'Blue Max' being a good film. But then I may have confused it with The Great Waldo Pepper...

Blue Max is a great film about WW1 fighter pilots. Waldo Pepper is a film about ex WW1 pilots doing barnstorming etc. Both Fantastic films with great air sequences. Both out on DVD too

dont know if anyone knows but the Robert Redford film War Hunt is due out soon on reg 1. I seem to remember it being good. About a soldier that went out alone at night to kill commies for pleasure. Check it out

Noticed on Play that one of my favourite WW2 movies "Is Paris Burning?" is due for R1 release in June. Great movie with a stunner of a soundtrack.

How good is this film. Is there much action or is it more mushy? I have always wanted to see it but never got round to it.
    Cheers

Not a gung-ho, high body count, action-fest, but by no means "mushy". The movie is a detailed account of the last days of Nazi occupation and the subsequent liberation of Paris. Filmed in the actual real-life locations, there are some impressive visuals underscored by one of Maurice Jarre's best ever soundtracks.

    Hey Steve

I got all those films you mentioned from Play and they are all really good prints of the films considering the age. Why do you get them from Amazon though, will you not get stung by customs. All mine were £8.99 at Play.com with free postage/

    cheers

    Hi Shaun,

I thought I'd give Amazon a go as they were a bit cheaper than Play, but not if I get charged customs etc. :suicide: I'm pleased that they are all good transfers. ;)

quote. B OF B reg1,Is it any good?

yeah. Its in widescreen and the sound is good. transfer is very good considering its a 60s movie. They have even put subtitles on for when the Germans are speaking. Somthing that was missing from the warner video. Top film too with pleanty of aerial action.

Shaunthedude, I can't agree with you over the sound of B o B.

I love this film, but the reg 1 sound is the minimum mono track, firmly locked to the centre channel. I had at least hoped for a 2 chanel mix to show of the brilliant soundtrack.

The sound level is also very low, I have to really crank up the amp to get any life and excitement into the ariel battle sounds.

I would re-purchase this if the reg2 turns out better ( a la Dog Soldiers ).

    hey dude

Your right. i quickly tried this dvd the othere day when it came and I watched it through tv speakers only. I thought it sounded good. I have just tried it via amp and yes, its pretty poor. Im still happy though. I also bought 633 squadron on reg 1 and its sound is the same. I know its out on reg 2 but it stated it was in full screen only where reg 1 is wide. Can anyone confirm this

    cheers

Hard to know whether or not to trust the information on the back of MGM/UA titles re. the screen ratios. "The Vikings" is listed as 4:3 full frame on the box, but the movie is 2.35:1 anamorphic. There is one other title of theirs this has happened with but can't recall the title; but it is an older title - '50s or '60s.
