I have a Denon DVD-A1 and I am looking to get the Domino 20 projector. When having the DVD upgraded to the latest (multi-region) official PAL progressive upgrade, someone from Denon told me that the DVD-A1 and Domino 20 would not work together on PAL progressive? Is anyone able to confirm or deny this?

    Ian.

could be true, but you would be better sending an interlaced signal to the dommino 20 and letting its onboard dcdi chip do the
    deinterlacing anyway.

    great PJ by the way.

Why not take your dvd player along to demo the PJ. then you can see what works and what dosent.

    Hi Ian,

As far as we are concerned there should be no reason why the Domino 20 should not work with the Denon. In fact we use a Denon 2900 and A1 in our demonstration rooms at SIM2 without any problems.

I do recall some earlier Denon DVD players which were originally only Region 1 progressive did have a few hiccups when upgraded to PAL Prog but you have to clarify that with Denon.

    Kind Regards

    Alan,

Many thanks for the response, if i did have issues, would i need to talk to Denon then? My DVD player should be the latest version.

Which woul give the best picture the A1 Prog scan or the onboard DCDi?

    Ian.

I would use the onboard DCDI of the PJ.
at the demo i saw we used an arcam 27a which is a slightly better dvd player than the A1 u have.
we used both its deinterlacers and the pjs and to my eye the pjs was slightly better.

the faroudja is excellent on the domino 20 real class.
    but it was real close.
the faroudja deinterlacers are superior to the silicon 503/4 efforts.

    I beg to differ gandley.

The de-interlacer in the A1 - on paper at least - is the better of the two. The de-interlacing on the DVD player is also performed prior to any D/A Video Conversion, hence is probably more 'accurate'.

Still, there's no harm in trying to use both...

thats why they have ditched the siliccon image deinterlacers on the A11 then!!

sorry but from what ive read through various sources and forums it seems quite clear the faroudja is better. (hence why most companies are now adopting this tech on there higher end products)
also isnt the A1 based on the older 503 chip.? (Could be wrong)

Oh well still an ace dvd player and combined with the domino a cracking combination.

with the arcam dvd and the domino i saw some of the best images for home use i have ever seen. and i would of bought it had it been equipt with a DVi or HDMI input.
