    Gordon,

Do I detect a hint (or more than a hint) of irony ?

Norm's the dude who got me into real woodworking (and therefore DIY sub cabinets etc), and I reckon there are a few other fans of his around this part of the Forum too :p

    Regards

Norm is indeed the man. I just wish he would learn to say REBATE not bloody Rabbit.:D

He is still the main man in DIY though.;)

    Cheers mylo,

I am bracing myself for lots of "I'm washing my hair that weekend" type jokes ;), so it's good to know I'm not the only fan .

Know what you mean about some of the Yank' terminology, but after 3 years of viewing, I'm fairly 'in tune' with it now.

    Regards

It is the big mans fault I have:

    A half built sub woofer
    A half finished table.
A hallway full of tool boxes.................

And a desire to buy all types of modern wood working machinery.
That and the fact my Grandfather used to build Tugs and Ferrys at Leith docks. They employed craftsmen in those days.:)

    mylo,

I know exactly what you mean mate.

I'm pretty good at coming up with the ideas, but putting them into practice (with all my lovely shiny tools :D), and then actually FINISHING them is another matter entirey. Then there's the missus (bless her), who gets upset because I store wood in the bedroom, and use the dining room as an assembly and finishing area - she just hasn't got any vision !

    Regards

No irony at all in fact. I would love to be able to make biscuits like Norm!

NewYankee Workshop and This Old House were my programmes of choice when I had Tuesdays off work. Seriously. I'd have gone if I wasn't at the Event

I wonder how many people go up to him and say that ? It's probably a bit of a sore point - like in Father Ted when he says "I DON'T BELIEVE IT!" to Richard Wilson, and gets a smack in the face

    Bit silly really...

    But...

Me and the wife both say "Hi Norm" after he says "Hi", at the start of the show!

Wife cracks up and screams "REBATE NOT RABBIT" every time!

As some people know, i'm power tool mad. Spending a lot of money on every type of tool imagineable.
So i nearly cried when Norm used a "manual saw" to cut some wood in the last series!
Just the thought of him not using a power tool sends shivers down my spine! :D

Really sad that i will miss him. :(

Mind you the wife says i'm more like "Tim the tool man Taylor" than Norm. :suicide:

"Tool time" "Tool time" "ugg" "ugg" !!!

Have in all serious seen a guy in B&Q ask if they sold 'biscuits' and been directed to a small pile of Twixes....

Norm has indeed a lot to answer for....my father has never hefted a piece of wood in his life yet now knows more about industrial scale wood machining tools than anyone has any right too.

    Update.....

Visited the show on Saturday, and saw the big man in the flesh (actually he's not as big as he looks). Didn't get to speak to him, as we'd have had to queue for well over an hour for the privilege. Thought he might give a bit of a speach, but he was just signing photographs.

I'd thoroughly recommend next year's show to anyone who's into woodworking/tools (especially power tools), as there was some really tasty gear on show, and much of it was on sale at special prices. Got myself a nice Hitachi cordless drill at a bargain price, and was tempted to spend MUCH more.

    Regards

PS. Just to put everyone's mind at rest - he was wearing a chequered shirt.
