But hey, I'd think if you forked out top dollar for a Marantz DV6400 SACD/DVD multi-player and a Marantz SR7400 AV Receiver, that you'd get a pretty good combo that didn't suffer from annoying LAYER CHANGE!!

Well I guess I must be stupid, 'cause after all them bucks I still get a noticeable pause (up to a second) on layer change on most DVDs.

Has anyone else noticed this with this player, or maybe its a receiver problem :( Just wondering if I should take it back to the dealer or stick with it as its endemic to the media not to the device.

    Cheers

    All right- you're stupid :D.

Layer change varies from player to player but IMO happens on all of them. The DV6400 isn't a player I've used that often but didn't seem to be a particular offender for layer change and switching through the SR7400 didn't make any real difference to this set of eyes. My 540D is pretty good for layer change but it is still there nonetheless.

Watched "Enemy at the Gates" R2 on it- the worst DVD in the world ever for layer change as it skips between the layers after each chapter. The 2900 wasn't loving that as the funky buffer seems to be set up for one change not multiple ones.

I never seem to be that bothered by the layer change, it's 1 second out of potentially around 11,000 seconds if you're watching LOTR!

I agree with Crustyloafer, just watch and enjoy!

    Thanks guys,

I figured it was a media specific problem and not device specific. I love the DV6400/SR7400 combo and I get brilliant soundstage and video imaging. So I guess I can tolerate a one second interruption to my sheer enjoyment. Some day they'll supercede DVD-V as a medium and I won't have to worry about it. Until then I'll just enjoy all the benefits of this medium over crappy old VHS!!

Layer change is also non-existant with the new Pioneer 575 player.

But as people have said, it's never been a problem for me anyway and hardly ruins a film.

(That said, I don't get it any more with my 2900)...
