Saw this BBC News article about Telewest offering a 3mbit service, while upgrading all existing customers to a 1.5 times faster service for free at end of May. NTL are also upgrading their customers to 1.5 times faster than at present, apparently.

i bet ntl do not upgrade the upload speed from 128 to 256 for 600k users. A free upgrade is excellent news though.

people like me on 1mb will have to pay an extra £3 on top
Its services will start at 300Kbps, priced at £17.99, with the top end at 1.5Mbps costing £37.99.

Also, I believe the upstream speeds stay the same unfortunately :(

But you could always go a step down then to a 900kb service for the priceband below, which will be £28 per month ish...

My current monthly bill for a 1mb service from ntl is 34.99 ... and both the register and the bbc have it showing as 37.99 for a 1.5mb service ... I've actually only just upgraded from a 600k service about 2 months ago and see no reason to go to the 1.5mb service (unless it really was free) I refuse to pay for something i didnt ask for and would indeed downgrade to the middle band if this was the case ! Sort it out NTL !

i emailed ntl about the price increase and i have just received this mail back:
.....................................................................
Dear Mr Stopper

Thank you for your email.

After investigation into your query, I can advise you that the price
increase and the speed increase are 2 separate events. The price increase
is reviewed annually and happens regardless of any speed alterations. The
speed increase is a response to feedback from our customers. Both increases
will take place on different occasions.
..............................................................................

hmmm, has anyone else had a increase in price for no reason ?
i havent and i have had ntl bb for 4 years now.
obviously they just dont want people to know that they need to increase price to keep up with it
ill be downgrading when this happens :(
