Hi all, I want to switch from wireless to wired for my XBOX360 & PS3.
I have a Linksys modem/gateway that I want to connect my Netgear 5 port switch to to allow me to connect the consoles to the 5 port switch.

Now, I will need approx 20m of RJ45 cable - will std cable do or do i need crossover, patched or whatever the alternatives are as I am unsure why there are options,

thanks,

Nash

You need a straight through Cat5 or (Cat6) cables with RJ45s at each end.

(The default in networking is straight through except when connecting two PCs together when one should use a cross-over. Some modern devices can detect the cable but it is not wise to rely on it because some can't.)

I have recently stopped making cables up because they are so cheap on a famous auction site. I just bought a 5M branded (Belkin) cable for a pound and postage. It was delivered in about 24 hours.
