Hi, from this forum i have learned so much in a a short space of time

Found out what cables i required to link up my av equipment.

Started to price up,and i'm amazed at prices of some of these cables. For starters, hdmi cables. Being a digital cable, 0's and 1's, how can you justify a 5m one for a tenner and another for over £100??:eek:

If i buy cheap will i notice the difference.

    Cables i require,all need to be 5m in length;

    2 scarts
    PS2 component
    Nintendo Wii component
    PS2
    OPtical cable
    2 hdmi

I could get these all for around £100 or even £1000
Would cost as much as my equipment!
    Help:lease:

For 5m and less HDMI I'd wager a small bet, well OK, a large bet, that you won't notice any difference between a £2 Tesco special and a £100 mutts-nutts model.

Thats what i thought, its a digital signal.

What about these PS2 and Nintendo cables?

Companies selling them for nearly £50.

Seen same lead, well same connections on CPC for a few quid.Same for the scarts....

It's not that we don't need well made cables just because it is 'only 1's and 0's' as with the lack of error correction on the communications we use for A/V it is important that the data gets there intact and in sync as out of sync wires in an HDMI cable would be a major issue.

But, fortunately we don't need to spend a fortune getting well made cables as they pretty much all come from the same factories in China regardless of what the expensive brands may try to tell you.

So luckily for us, well made cables are not expensive at all.

With cables like that look at the quality of the cable they use.

Not being able to see both it is hard to compare but if one is using very thin cables and the other isn't then you may see some difference in use but with extreme price differences the improvement in % terms still may not be worth the expense.

Don't worry too much though as you don't need hugely thick cables for a component connection, look at the size of a VGA cable for example, that carries essentially the same signal.
