I'm looking for a neat way of labelling all my cables, so I know where they come from and connect to. Has anyone got any better ideas than masking tape and a biro?

Different coloured heatshrink bands? You could even use combinations like resistor colour codes if you've got lots that you need to mark.

I think Brother make something called the 'ptouch'? It makes simple labels on adhesive tape. Looks nice and professional and should be ideal for labeling cables and plugs. I think they're about £12-£15 considerably more expensive than some tape and a biro.
Also dangerous in small children’s hands! You may wake up one morning to discover everything you possess has been conveniently labeled.....
