I'm relatively new to the seperates world... I have a Technics CD unit which I want to use, probably with a pair of Mission M70S speakers driven by one of the following Cambridge Audio Amps

    A5 @ £119.95
    Azur 540a @ £199.95

I notice from the spec that the A5 delivers 60wpc, compared to the 540a's 50wpc power, but that the 540a is significantly more expensive - why?

Are either of these amps worth bothering with, and what's the difference between them? I also notice that the A300 [discontinued] is still available from some RS stores; but I can't find any info about it. Is it worth a look?

    Thanks
    Owen

The 540A is a newer model - in my opinion superior to the other two Cambridge models you mention. Superb build quality, great sound, nice remote! Better product!

And I was told it is worth to spend a little more and go for the 640. I did it, and I am very satisfied.

The 540A is nominally down on power over the A5 but will poo all over it in sonic performance terms. It is also better built and specced. Have you thought about the 340A though? £150 and carries most of the features of the 540A.
