    Hi
I have recently purchased a Sony STR-DB1080 Receiver and a Kef HTS2001 Speaker package and have encountered a problem with a buzzing sound coming out of the satellite speakers this continues to happen no matter what arrangement a connect my equipment to receiver in fact the sound remains even when the only thing connected is one speaker as you can imagine this is most annoying has anybody any idea as to cause & remedy or will receiver have to be retuned.

    Thanks

Does it happen when the amp is off?
does it happen when the amp is muted?
does it happen on both anologue and digital inputs?
does it happen on any particular input?
does it happen with the volume control right down?

I had this with my amp, which was plugged into a block extension lead, along with 5 other plugs. I plugged the amp directly into the wall socket and the humming disappeared.

    Hi Gall

Take it back it is faulty !

I bought the Sony 1080 last week and it started buzzing yesterday as you descibe. I disconnected everything, moved it to another room and tried different speakers and it still buzzed.

Some of the other posts are talking about ground loop / interference buzzes which i have experience dwith my Debnon avr3802 and kef sub but the sony problem is not the same although it sounds it.

Took mine back to Superfi today who exchanged it no problem.

Will let you know what the new one is like when i have tried it.

But it is definately faulty - mine was fine for 4 days then all of a sudden it started buzzing with no changes.

There is another members post who has had the same problem.

So get back on to the dealer and get it exchanged - no matter of tweaking or isolating will solve this particular buzz.

    Hi Malford and Gall

This is mainly for you two.

Just wired up my replacement sony str db1080 and guess what............................................................ NO BUZZING:D

So even though I was 99% sure the amp was faulty this proves conclusively that my previous amp was definately faulty and yours probably are as well as my set up has not changed ! at all and no buzzing now with the replacement amp.

Dont know if its me but this new amp sounds even better than the previous one - just watched Diana Krall in Paris and really enjoyed it.

Just got to wait and see now for a week as my old one was fine for about 4 days before the buzzing started - fingers crossed.

Gall, please feel free to contact me if you have any trouble getting a replacement and I will be happy to convey my experience to the shop you purchased from.

    Regards

    Andy

Just ordered mine from superfi in Manchester. Now that you've been using yours for a couple of weeks has the buzzing problem disappeared/ not occurred?

The 2nd unit I got from Superfi started buzzing as well, after only 2 days !!!!!!!!!. So returned it again and SuperFi phoned Sony Uk who, not surprisingly, said they were not aware of any problems !!!.

So Superfi got another new unit for me (different stock) and this one has been fine now for 2 weeks or so and I think it is a great amp. Doesnt have that overly warm, clouded sound that many receivers seem to favour.

So it would appear that I was super unlucky to get 2 bad units but i think there was a faulty component in a certain batch, which breaks down as it warms up.

Hopefully this new one will continue to work fine.

    Hi
Thanks for all the replys but i gave up with the Sony 1080 and Superfi whose after sales service (online anyway) can only be described as pathetic or none existent i am now waiting on delivery of a Sony VA-333ES from Robert Whyte Ltd at a cost of 549 pounds which i consider a good deal.

    Thanks again
    Gall
