Hi,
I decided to share my experience with you guys, because you helped with my choice and i am gratefull to everybody posting on this forum. I apologize for my " bad english" because is not my first language, i am Portuguese and speak and write English, French, Spanish an Italian. I am living in England and i love this country like i love Portugal.
Everything started with that dream of one day i will be able to afford a great audio/video system. So i am the kind of person that reads every information before buying anything, so started reading all hifi forums and watching the youtube videos about the speakers i wanted to listen.
I heard Pmcs, Kefs, Svs spekears and subs, and Focal. I chose these brands based on performance and aesthetics. Yes, i care about the looks, if i am paying a lot of money i want it to be perfect in every way. So I narrowed my choices to these speakers, Pmc twenty5.22, Pmc twenty5.24, Svs ultra towers, focal electra II 1028 be, kef r700 and reference. I left the kefs to listen last. I liked the looks of kef but 1 year ago i listened the r300s in my friends home and didnt liked, now i know i just didnt like the amp not the speakers.
An amp can make you love or hate some speakers, this was true for every speakers i listened before the reference. Everybodys told me, the better the speakers more they will show your system weaknesses. Just not true. I used rotels, naims, arcams, musical fidelity, many different models with 125 w 200w 70w 80w, and you know what, the reference 3s sounded amazing with all of them, far better then all the others with their best match speaker/amp. So if you are worried , like a was about buying reference speakers and not having a milion pound amp, pre amp, dac, source, dont worry any more because they only go from extremely amazing to extremely amazing plus plus plus...
I heard r700 and references side by side, with naim separates and integrated amps, 2 rotels 2 arcams and musical fidelity m6si. My preference goes for the naim separates but the dealer told me about 6000 pound for them, so i end up buying supernait 2 that is very close to the separates sound quality to my ears. I used my Fostex hpp1 portable dac and headphones amp connect to my ipad, and it was by far better than the internal dac in any of that amps. Again an ipad/iphone with a portable dac that i use also with my Beyerdynamic t5p headphones, is a rig that anybody can afford. My dream comes true without spending a million pound as i thought i needed to, when i listened pmcs focal etc... I hope this helps somebodys achieve their dreams. Thank you very much to you all.
