Buying games from foreign regions: Please read the FAQ in the first post

There haven’t been any posts deleted from this thread in months. The last post you made in this thread was on 22nd November:

I've purchased games from the Brazil store occasionally, but the removal of gift card redemption at checkout on the updated website recently had scared me off. I see the latest advice found on a well known UK deals site now suggests doing transactions on the console itself like this - perhaps I'll try it next time there's a bargain that I'd like:

Go to Xbox console settings and change your LOCATION region to Brazil.
Restart Xbox and head back to the store.
Add Payment Method > Redeem Gift Card (self explanatory)
It might ask for an address, as always Google is your friend.
Complete purchase of game as normal.
Be sure to change LOCATION region back to United Kingdom once purchased.

Got slapped with a 2 week suspension for apparently circumventing t/c’s regarding store purchases

Console saying it’s permanent but enforcement site saying 2 weeks, wonder if they’re cracking down

What / when did you last buy?

After 9 months of hell, and many appeals & correspondence, I have had my msn account reinstated after Microsoft closed it on 9th April 2021 for "a serious violation". This had locked me out of all Xbox & Microsoft services and content including email access

I have now regained access to my Live account of over 17 years & game saves with tens of thousands of hours associated with it
My games library of over 2500 digital games (XB1 & 360 titles) and as much DLC is restored & gift card and MS point balances are still there

To say I am relieved is an understatement

The above comments about circumventing store purchases & account suspension is a bit concerning; it is enforcement from the Compliance Team you really need to avoid at all costs

Did the say what the violation was? If I do get reinstated I’ll probably just stick to cheap UK credit deals going forward

The only vague indication they would give is that I had broken the Code of Conduct in the Microsoft Service Agreement
Annoyingly they will not tell you what it is you have specifically done, so how you are supposed to defend yourself against their accusation is hopeless - I resorted to going through it line by line & refuting that I had done anything against their terms.

Section 3a v is the interesting one, but then the descriptive examples they give are more about impersonating someone than giving dodgy addresses/location

Interesting point I noted was that the US & European Code of Conduct is pretty much the same except the US Code of Conduct states that it is only enforceable when using the Service, this is not mentioned in the European version, so point 3i - Don't do anything illegal, would indicate if you break the law, EVER, you can be banned, but in the US it would only be when using the Service!!

For your info:

3. Code of Conduct.

  • a. Content, material or actions that violate these Terms are not permitted. By agreeing to these Terms, you’re under the obligation to follow these rules:
    • i. Don’t do anything illegal.
    • ii. Don’t engage in any activity that exploits, harms or threatens to harm children.
    • iii. Don’t send spam or engage in phishing. Spam is unwanted or unsolicited bulk email, postings, contact requests, SMS (text messages), instant messages or similar electronic communications. Phishing is sending emails or other electronic communications to fraudulently or unlawfully induce recipients to reveal personal or sensitive information, such as passwords, dates of birth, National Insurance Numbers, passport numbers, credit card information, financial information or other sensitive information, or to gain access to accounts or records, exfiltration of documents or other sensitive information, payment and/or financial benefit.
    • iv. Don’t publicly display or use the Services to share any inappropriate content or other material (involving, for example, nudity, bestiality, pornography, offensive language, graphic violence or criminal activity).
    • v. Don’t engage in activity that is fraudulent, false or misleading (e.g. asking for money under false pretences, impersonating someone else, manipulating the Services to increase play count or affect rankings, ratings or comments).
    • vi. Don’t willfully circumvent any restrictions on access to or availability of the Services.
    • vii. Don’t engage in activity that is harmful to you, the Services or others (e.g. transmitting viruses, stalking, posting terrorist or violent extremist content, communicating hate speech or advocating violence against others).
    • viii. Don’t infringe upon the rights of others (e.g, unauthorised sharing of copyrighted music or other copyrighted material, resale or other distribution of Bing maps or photographs).
    • ix. Don’t engage in activity that violates the privacy of others.
    • x. Don’t help others break these rules.
  • b. Enforcement. We reserve the right to deny Your Content if it exceeds limits on storage or file size allowed by the Service. In addition, if you violate any of the obligations listed in section 3.a above or otherwise materially violate these Terms, we may take action against you including (without limitation) stopping providing Services or closing your Microsoft account immediately for good cause or blocking delivery of a communication (like email, file sharing or instant message) to or from the Services. We also reserve the right to remove or block Your Content from the Services at any time if it is brought to our attention that it may violate applicable law or these Terms. When investigating alleged violations of these Terms, Microsoft reserves the right to review Your Content in order to resolve the issue. However, we do not monitor the Services and make no attempt to do so.
  • c. Application to Xbox Services. Click here (Xbox Community Standards | Xbox) for more information about how this Code of Conduct applies to the Xbox online service, Xbox Game Pass, Games for Windows Live and Xbox Games Studios games, applications, services and content provided by Microsoft. Violation of the Code of Conduct through Xbox Services (defined in section 13.a.i) may result in suspensions or bans from participation in Xbox Services, including forfeiture of content licences, Xbox Gold Membership time and Microsoft account balances associated with the account.

Hey yes pal thank you, changing location on console got me the game, but it won't play if I'm in UK
Bit annoying, so everytime I wanna play I gotta switch location, does that sound normal to you? Could I have done summit wrong? On Xbox one I think it's ok but on series X it was ok until I redownloaded game from Mexico store , now I've uninstalled and reinstalled from my UK disc but without disc same issue urgh
a bit late to this , but it it looks like Ridge Racer 6 and the Spongebob Underpants Slam! Arcade game are the only titles that I am aware of need the console set to US and will not play if set to any other country - all other games once you have downloaded to your XB1 will run whatever country you set as location - why these 2 are different I really don't know.
The infuriating part is that the disc version of RR6 is region free and Arcade games are region free anyway. The fact that they are only available to download from the US store may have something to do with it but it's very strange as XBox One games are supposed to be region free, even if they are OG or 360 XBox titles, they effectively run as an XB1 game

I've used US gift card credit (never credit cards for out of region) very sparingly over the years, but in hindsight, I wish I had kept my primary, original UK account completely separate from other region activity. Too late now though.

Skyrim Anniversary Edition + Fallout 4 G.O.T.Y bundle is currently 3200 HUF on the Hungarian store (approximately £7.50) much cheaper than elsewhere and no fuss to buy with a bank card. It has remained this price for a week already, despite looking like a possible misprice.

Elden ring is only £26 on Eneba right now. Anyone know if you can still do the Argentina VPN trick still ??

Would this work for a Dolby Atmos too? It's only €2.95 on Eneba for an Argentinean code.

EDIT: Worked using a 7 day trial of Surfshark VPN on my phone.

No that was in the right thread at the time but I thought I'd posted something in this thread in relation to tunnelbear VPN Chrome extension no longer working but HotUKDeals advised to use Urban VPN when posting their deals via Eneba.

Since using Urban VPN it's been flawless (touchwood) and you don't even have to change location at the bottom of the xbox.com webpage. Simply run Urban VPN, login to your Xbox account, redeem code and boom, job done.

On a separate subject has anyone used or know how to buy from Turkey? They currently have a cracking price on the all singing all dancing edition of Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. Will it possibly have to be a similar method of setting up Cryptopay as on the PSN?

I've only heard of gift cards being used for the Turkey store in recent years; but they have since become very difficult to acquire.

Cloning Clyde (Xbox 360) now FREE at Brazil store for Gold/Ultimate members.

Splosion Man (Xbox 360) now FREE at South Africa store for Gold/Ultimate members.

Not worth the hassle of changing regions and risks of a ban (no matter how small) for games I’ll never play.
