Am looking into buy my new widescreen online, for obvious reasons.(kS28Sx200)

If anyone could give me any tips or advice etc i would be much appriciated.

I have looked at a few places which are the cheapest for the set i want. (multizonedvd.com/RGB Direct) However, the delivery states that i could be within seven days 9-5. Obviously that would be ok for one day but i cannot wait in for a whole week? Or have i just taken it wrong.

    Cheers for any help

    Jez,

I know you want to buy on-line "for obvious reasons" (which I assume means cheapest price).

But do consider John Lewis, who are highly thought of on this Forum.

    (1) They will pricematch any store.

    (2) They include a 5 year guarantee for peace of mind.

    (3) Free delivery.

    (4) They'll state a delivery time (my Panny came EXACTLY on time).

    (5) Their returns policy is second to none.

    (6) If you're dissatisfied, there's a person to go and shout at!

    End of commercial.

No, I'm not a share-holder, just a very satisfied customer!

    Good luck.

I am currently trying to get JL to pricematch a Philips 32WP9509 with TV & Video Direct.
The assistant was distinctly 'cool' about it and told me very abruptly that they don't pricematch every store (I know they don't pricematch internet sellers). Maybe they are getting fed up with all this pricematching! Anyway, my 'query' has been passed to the JL 'Undersales' dept. and they will apparently call me in about four days to let me know whether they will pricematch or not.

Does anyone know if there are lower cost 'aftermarket' extended warranties - i.e. ones that you can take out with a third-party warranty supplier and not linked either to the shop or the manufacturer (who skim off a lot of the money paid). I would consider the Thomson 32WB643 (a super looking set) if I could get an extended warranty at a sensible price. Unfortunately JL don't sell this set.

PS - I have applied for a Barclaycard which now gives a 'price promise' (applicable to any supplier, internet or conventional) and 2 years free warranty on goods over £500. Seem good benefits.

John Lewis has the KD28Dx200 for £949.00

Which is abit pricy for some places online do it for around £720.

So John Lewis dont price match internet sites, what if they have a site and a store?

    Thanks again guys :)

if they have an actual store they will pricematch it. Best thing would be to get John Lewis to pricematch a physical store, get the 5year warranty, and then get Barclaycard to refund you the difference between the price you paid and the lowest web cost. On a related note anyone know the cheapest price for a jvc 32d40 in a real store?

That's the price that non-forum members pay! :rotfl:

Those "in the know" will negotiate with the Undersales Dept until they get a bargain.

Don't forget all the other advantages of JL. :lesson:

    Go for it!

There are several, but I've used D & G (Domestic & General Insurance) for my white goods and have received excellent service.

They may not be the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. :lesson:

(My old Dishwasher was repaired at least a dozen times and they paid out without a murmer!)

On the other hand, the JL guarantee is free... :)

Does each store have its own Undersales Dept. or is there one national Undersales? i.e. if one store 'won't play ball' is it worth trying another?

I was also looking at price matching the Philips 32WP9509 or the possibly the Sony KD32DX200 at JL. Let us know how you get on.

If Barclaycard will refund you the difference, why do you need to do a price match at JL in the first place?

Although I seem to remember reading on another thread, that Barclaycard will not price match with JL, without adding on the cost of a 5 year warranty from the Internet retailer. Could be wrong on that though. Any one else know for sure?

Incidentally which of the cheapest online/store sites will JL definitely do a price match on?

Sorry, Bender, but it's not that easy!

There's nothing definate about the JL pricematch, it all depends on who you happen to be dealing with.

An element of luck is involved and you have to just keep trying. :lesson:

I got my pricematch at the third attempt, but it was well worth the effort.

    Yes, that's what I did.
They took the details of the other store and my details - with a promise to get back to me within four days.

Ring your local store, ask for the "Undersales Dept" and make your pitch!

They'll check and ring you back.

If it's "sorry, no" then just try again with a price from another store.

Eventually you'll succeed (unless you're first to get tired of the game!).

Remember, you've nothing to lose except your patience.

    Go for it!

to tv sets over 28" (ask them first)

Checked with Barclaycard - all CRT TV's are covered, but they *do not* cover LCD or plasma TV's.

JL pricematched 'TV and Video Direct' with no problem - they even got a slightly lower quote than I was given and so pricematched it! I was sent a very polite letter by their Undersales Dept., confirming the pricematch.

    Microstar,

    Great news!

Now see if you are just as impressed with the JL delivery service.

My Panny was delivered exactly on time at noon on the specified day.

(Well, it was actually 10 secs late, but I let them off!)

The only problem is that now I am wondering if I should get a Thomson 32WB642 instead - sound it a little better than on the Philips apparently.
That's the trouble with the modern world - too much choice!

I've got a question about the JL price match. Will they only match a complete like-for-like, ie the TV plus a 5 year warranty.

The reason I ask is that I'm looking at a Sony KD32DX200. At JL it's £1199, but at Currys website it's £919 (instead of £1199 in store). Obviously that's without an extended warranty. Will JL price match it, or will they only match a Currys price that includes a 5 year extended warranty?

It does sort of suggest their 'free' 5 year warranty isn't quite so free when they add nearly £300 onto the price that others sell at. I wonder what percentage of people buying from them actually do a price match.

The JL 5-year warranty really is free! - so not included in the pricematch calculation. They will not match a web price though - only an in-store price.
In my case they matched 'TV and Video Direct' of Bolton, who have both a website AND a retail store (which charge the same price). They matched the price+delivery total and the JL warranty really is free and doesn't come into the calculation. An unbeatable deal, I think!

    Wow! Sounds interesting! :)

I already have a Barclaycard but I was unaware of the Price Promise thingy... does that mean I can buy a Philips 9709 in Currys at £1,100 (or whatever) then ring Barclaycard up and quote an Internet store selling it at £779 and they'll credit the difference to me?!

Sounds too good to be true! Does anyone have any experience with actually doing this, and are Barclaycard 'true to their word'... or awkward so-and-so's who try to squirm out of it, by quoting the 'small print' in their Terms & Conditions?

ANy info GREATLY APPRECIATED, as I'm about to take the plunge and upgrade my 5 year old 28" Tosh :)

    Cheers,
    J.B.

I would be a bit wary about buying online now. My promised "4-5 working days" delivery turned into 2 weeks, which turned into 3 when Toshiba apparently had run out of stands for my 42WH46. Of course my money had disappeared into their pockets way before, so I had to wait.

When it did arrive, by a pallet delivery co., they dumped it on my drive & left... no insurance to go into my house.

The internet site stated that they have their own team of dedicated delivery men who will install & set up for you, only after I checked did I notice the small print that says "but not for oversized items".

I called them today as the set has developed faults (red blobs left & right bottom, line down screen centre, trim on rear falling off). I was assured the "service centre" would ring me back, but of course they never did... so try again tommorow.

At least if I had purchased from a local retailer I would have my normal standby if they didn't play ball, which is to stand just outside the shop & tell everyone how crap they are, with a big sign, until they give in.

    Cheers,

    Steve.
