Aside from the warranty implications, are there any caveats I should be aware of if buying a tablet PC from the USA? Specifically the Asus Eee Pad Transformer

US prices are usually given without tax, so you'll need to pay VAT (20%) and potentially customs duty if it's between £360 and £630 (2.5%) as well as a £5-10 handling fee.

EDIT: I believe customs duty is worked out before VAT is added and that they're both added to the base price rather than one on top of the other, although I could be mis-remembering.

What is the price saving getting one of these from the states?

Is it the original Transformer? With shipping, duty etc. and all the hassle, is it so much cheaper than the £300 Asda are knocking them out for to be worth the potential aggro?

A quick glance at eBay shows possible savings or around £120

    Newegg have the TF300T 32Gb model @ $374.00

I have a friend in the States who is coming to the UK next month so was considering asking her to pick one up. Might avoid the tax implications that way too (with some luck).

There's no hardware difference other than the plug on the charger is there?

Also, am I right in thinking the docking station is an option, not included?

If someone else brings it in for you they will have to say, if asked, it is theirs not a gift for you. Little chance of that happening anyway so you should be ok. If you ship it yourself you might think you've got away with it until weeks later you get a bill from the shipping company as they are the ones who collect the taxes for the revenue.

Thanks. My main concern is with the hardware. Am I correct in assuming that there is no difference between one bought in the USA over one bought in the UK other than the plug on the charger?
