I'm looking to purchase a screen in the near future and need a few questions answering first please : )

    1) Can you please confirm what aspect ratio i would require. The majority of my viewing would be from dvd, so i was looking at a 16:9 screen.

    2) My CRT is a Sony 1272. Can i have your thoughts on screen material / gain etc

    3) I was looking at a fixed screen as the projector is in a dedicated room. Should i be considering an electric screen as they are of a similar price?

    4) Any thoughts on where to buy from?

    Thanks in advance guys,

    Shaun

    Shaunr,
My good friend Walter Stewart from www.direkt2u.co.uk will help you out. Walter specializes in Da-Lite screens from the USA and is the major player dealing with Da-Lite here in the UK. His number is 01487 815303

    Regarding your other questions,

    1)I would go for a 16x9 (1.78-1)
    2) If you have good control over ambient lighting and can keep your screen size down, 1.3 gain is best. Failing that go to 1.5 gain, no more.
    3) If you can, go for fixed screens as they offer the best quality. To achieve the 'flatness' of a fixed screen in motorised form you would need a 'tab tentioned' screen which costs much more than its fixed counterpart.
For example, an electric tab tentioned Stewart Filmscreen costs three times more than the fixed version of the same material.

The screen is the most important part of any cinma set up, i bought an owl 7 foot 16:9 motorised screen, for £750.00
the material is the best i have seen or felt,
    well worth the money

I got it from Sevenoakes hifi
