Hello all, great forum. Been quietly reading for a while now and feel a lot more informed then before I started. The only problem I have had is that I am from Australia and we seem to get different models or at least different model numbers. Anyway, I digress ... I've read a lot of you speak highly of the Panasonics but I cannot find the models you describe in our stores. All we get here is the TH-42PV30A http://panasonic.com.au/products/category.cfm?objectID=46

Here is the typical range of plasma screens in Australia ... http://csvav.com.au/plasma.htm

There is also Samsung, LG, Pioneer, JVC, Loewe but these have not impressed me.

I am trying to decide on a plasma. Checked out a few but I am struggling to decide on one although the Fujitsu does appeal (although pricey). Saw the Pioneer also but I think the Fuj has a nicer picture.

I did see the 42 HD Hitachi in a store today but the colours were terrible (a lot of pink in the white and blue was dull) and both the Panasonic & Pioneer that were near it blew it away for PQ. I have read that the factory defaults are pretty bad on the Hitachi and need a lot of tweeking so perhaps they just didn't set it up properly.

I can either buy a SD Fujitsu or the HITACHI 42PD7000MA HD screen ( http://csvav.com.au/hitachi_42pd7000ma.pdf ) for around the same price AU$5000. Has anyone seen or read anything about this model in action? Any other advice? Should I get the HD or stick with the SD ??? HEEEELP !!! :lease:

The 7000 series Hitachi sets are just filtering through here. We can get 7200 and 7500's I believe. How do you intend to drive the monitor?

Firstly, thank you for taking the time out to help me.

I will mainly use it for watching free to air TV & DVD's. I have recently bought a Rotel RDV1060 so don't intend to replace it with a HD DVD player anytime soon. I plan to connect the DVD to the screen via Component.

For free to air, I will buy a Digital Set top box. If I go SD then the Topfield PVR ( http://www.topfield-australia.com.au/product.asp?SKU=TF5000PVR ) with SCART to Componentor cable. For HD the Toshiba HDD-JD35 ( http://www.cnet.com.au/hometheatre/digital/0,39030370,40005483,00.htm ) with HDMI.

I have also read about using scalars to convert to DVI , etc... is this the way to go or should I stick to component-2-component connectivity?

I hope this answers the question. Again, I'm relatively new to this technology so if I missed the point please let me know.
