    Hi guys

    Newbie here.

I've been trawling the threads for what seems like ages, looking for some pointers on where to start/what to buy.

Apologies if I've missed anything blatantly obvious but my head hurts from trying to digest all of the technical information on these boards. I have so many questions that it's scary. I'll try to keep it brief though.

I want a 42" panel and have a budget of £2000 - £3000. It seems as though Panasonics get the thumbs up from everyone. I was edging toward a PW6/PW7 but see that the PV500 might be worth waiting for? How far off is HDTV and will it only be phased in slowly?

What else will I need to buy? Cables/Scalers/Tuners etc etc.

I am only really a casual viewer. I watch a hell of a lot of sport on Sky and also a lot of movies, (DVD and Sky).

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

    Ozz

it would be sensible to wait for the PV500 to come out.... all you need to add is the right cables to a PV500, other option is a PHD7 and scaler/AV AMP try and get a demo of a PHD7 with/out scaler and see what you think....

So long as Panasonic haven't messed up the new stuff, then I think the PV500 is nigh on ideal for you...perfect, in fact

High-definition is coming next year - I think live football and new movies will be high-def at launch.

my guess is the PV500 will be only £2500ish at full whack, and should be closer to £2000 on settled internet prices...leaving a lot of budget to spare hopefully

as horny says, wait and see though - dont be tempted by pre-order, my dad passed on a BARGAIN Pioneer 503 in favour of a new 434, fully expecting it to be better...disappointed doesn't even begin to describe how he feels!
