What would you go for as part of revamping a system and entering the wonderful world of separates? Thoughts and opinions appreciated :D
Only really need 5 channels so thats not a biggy, and mainly HT but music might be nice - but not essential

Can't say much about the Sony but I still have an A1 and I am very happy with it.

Watch out for problems with the display though, there are reports that it has failed on some units due to poor soldering joints (I think that was the reason).

Hi Woof, as an ex STRVA555ES owner I think I am qualified to give advice on this question. I owned a Yamaha DSP A5 and after reading a review of the Sony in What Hi Fi I went and bought the STRVA555ES, was I disapointed or what, I had sold the DSP A5 and bought an amp that cost 3 times what the Yamaha did and there was no more detail on offer, no more dynamics either, the only thing it did better was go louder. I would therefore recommend that you ignore the Sony product and go for the Yamaha, eventually I got rid of the Sony and went back to a Yamaha amp.

I've had the YAMAHA DSPA1 for 5 years now, and, touch wood has never missed a beat. This amp is still one of the bes on the market and is equally up to the challenge of Home Cinema (my main use) or music.
I would wholly recommend this amp to you from person experience!!!
Go for the YAMAHA if you get the chance!!

Had a DSP-A1 for about 7 years from 2/3 month after thay came out until about 6 months ago. It was fab and it took the Z9 to knock it of it's perch. and that was £3k+.

    Go for the Yammy
