buy a camera in japan

I have a friend going to Japan this week and am thinking of asking him to buy me a Canon Ixus 850 IS.
1) Does anyone know if it would be cheap to buy it in Japan?
2) If the camera will be covered by the manufactures warrenty in this country, and would I have to keep the packaging because he may have to dump it to avoid customs asking to many questions?
3) Will the mains charger be compatable to UK 230V?
4) Will I have to learn Japanese to use it?
5) Will it be worth it or should I just buy it in this country?

Any help in helping me decide would be much appreciated.

I have an Ixus 800 IS from Japan, purchased on ebay. They are cheaper to buy in Japan, but are only covered by Canon Japan Warranty. The charger will only require a US style 2 pin -> 3 pin adapter. In my opinion, the savings that can be made are worth the risk of not being able to use the warranty.

TBH,

unless you're spending over £1K then theres no real benefit to bringing one home and risking customs and a breakage..

get it over here and save yourself the worry!
