I'm looking to get this DVD. Looks like R1 Infinifilm edition with both theatrical and directors cut is best version but at the moment £11 delivered is best I can do. But I've seen it on eBay for £6.49 delivered.

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=2305&item=6373518449&rd=1

Does this look legit? If it isn't how can you get so much feedback from happy customers? He seems to be selling recent stuff for much the same price and its got my "beware" senses twitching. He's also had a lot of feedback mutually withdrawn.

The R2 version of the directors cut is somewhat cheaper (CDWOW) but is it the same directors cut as the R1 because there is a different running time. I realise that there should be but different sites seem to be quoting different run times and its confusing. eg CDWOW claim the R1 directors cut is 120 mins and the R2 dir cut is 115 mins and play247 has it at 113 mins - I thought R1 ran 3% quicker?

Sorry so many questions but I really want this film. If anyones seen R1 cheap please post.

    Thanks cranium

That eBay listing looks legit to me. The volume he is selling/has listed, if there was an issue it would be there in the feedback. 99.4% on those numbers is excellent imo.

Just a thought - try DVD Soon (www.dvdsoon.com).

It's $26 Can (ok not really cheap) but if you have a fidelity card (which you can read all about in the bargains section), you can get extra money off :)

As to the ebay guy, I think i'd have reservations too. Try ebay.com over ebay.co.uk ?

The R3 also has the advantage of being on 2 discs and not a double sided one like the R1. When I got the R1 delivered only days latter did I realise there was an R3 and it does look very nice.

that doesnt look legit!! look at his feedback, sure 99% good, but 99% of ebay users wouldn't know a pirate disc if it had a parrot on it's shoulder. If you look at the negatives and neutrals, many of them are for sending out fake dvds, like:

There are also lots for discs getting "lost in the post" and royal mail aren't that bad!

I think all the writing in the digipak and all the menus on the dvd are in korean though :( i just found out that place accepts paypal though :) and i have funds in my paypal account, so it's almost like i'm not paying for it ;) i managed to find lots more shots and i was sold.

    *****SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER*****
Can someone help me out with the ending of this film. The rental version I saw ends -

with the lad killing himself as an embryo - so he never meets the girl

but from speaking with my bro he saw it with a totally different ending.

Does anyone know what I'm going on about ?

You saw the Directors cut, your brother saw the cinema version. That's it in a nutshell.

a friend of mine got really confused cos i took her to see the butterfly effect in the cinema, and then she liked it enough to buy it on dvd, and she was sure it had a different ending in the cinema, but assumed she'd just forgotten what happened. Personally i much prefer the theatrical cut, the ending just the right amount of happy and sad, and the oasis music brings a tear to the eye.. the director's cut ending was pretty sudden, but when you realise that all the added scenes lead up to it, it seems very clever.

    Thanks for that.

Quite a significant difference really then. If I'd have had the conversation before returning the dvd I could have watched the extras which no doubt would have told us the whys.

Thanks for the input folks. I emailed the eBay guy saying I'd return it if it was fake - he didn't reply, nuff said. Looking at that feedback instantly put me off - I'd only looked at his past few and I sensed something not right but when you see the negs altogether like that it's obvious he's a con merchant. Thanks for that list marc angelus - that's a very useful site!! How can you be a powerseller with over 6000 positive feedbacks and 99.4% when it seems hes selling copies? You would have thought eBAy would have stopped him by now (some chance).

Anyway went with CDWOW R3 for a tenner. But If I really like it that R3 spec ed looks a must for later..........

no problem, i hope it helps you out :)

ebay do know about the piracy, but they very rarely do anything about it, they seem to have a "crackdown of the week" type attitude where they'll decide to crack down on porn, or crack down on guns, or crackdown on alcohol, or crackdown on modchips; but they never sustain any sort of presence long enough for it to have an effect, and only go after one thing at a time. At the moment if you advertise a chipped ps2, your ad will be deleted within a couple of hours and your account suspended!! But you can put 100 pirate dvd's up and they don't care! In the end, they get tens of thousands of dvd's on there, and charging a listing fee for each one, imagine how much money they make!!

I did see a highly amusing thread on another forum the other day though, some **** came on the forum asking for help cos he'd received a letter from one of the big film studios, saying that they had discovered he was selling pirate dvds on ebay and they wanted him to stop immediately, send all his copies to them, and give them the names and addresses of who he bought them from, and who he sold them to, and if he didn't they'd take him to court. Serves him right! Needless to say he was crapping himself and the other members of the forum just found it highly amusing ;)

    Oh My God.
Just watched the extras abot time travel in movies na d on TV
Dr Who never ever had a red phone box.
Dont americans ever get it right when it comes to reporting uk sci-fi.
    what next? Blue dwarf?
Would have thought it that hard to put a pic of the TARDIS on screen insted of a red phone box (could have been a red bus or buck house i suppose)
Wish i'd just downloaded the film now.

    Dave.

received my japanese digipak this morning and i'm afraid to say i give it the :thumbsdow

sure the packaging is nice, but that's all this set's got going for it. For one, the menus are Japanese 90% of the time, and in all the places you might need an english translation. The few bits of english are the names of the deleted scenes. Also, the movie has forced subtitles in places even if you set subtitles to OFF, which is annoying, and worst of all, the theatrical disc and director's cut discs are both wrongly labelled! The theatrical cut is on the director's cut disc and vice versa! Also there's no DTS on the theatrical cut, which i think is the better cut of the movie.

I definitely won't be getting rid of the infinifilm version i've got.

Ordered this last Thursday at 9.30pm from CDWOW - received Monday morning at 10am

Is this a record? I've had one or two minor problems with CDWOW (things out of stock for ages) but I have to admit they get my vote every time. It puts some British retailers to shame when I can get a dvd from HK with free P&P in about a quarter of the time it takes when posted from England and paying for the privelige. Well done CDWOW.

    (Off Topic)

Cranium - I know EXACTLY what you mean.

DVD Soon (Canada) sent my copy of Ladder 49 on Friday and it arrived Today! Axel Music (Germany apparently) sent my copy of Popular Season 2 a fortnight ago - no sign still.

    Crazy eh ?

Still - Butterfly's a pretty fun movie :) (at least it's topic related!!!!)
