I have seen this question posted previously, but in all honesty, the replies were too technical for me to follow, and the earliest similar question I saw was over 9 months ago -- hopefully some new software has come out since then.....
Anyway, I have Sky+, and recently bought both a Sweetspot video card for Component capture (the Sky+ box RGB Scart goes through a JS YUV converter), and a Terratec 7.1 Space, for Opt. Digital In. In my ignorance, I thought this would allow for pretty high quality DVD recordings. What I did not realise is that the audio stream out of Sky comes in completely raw (for 5.1), and the Terratec card does not decode the signal. So, everything I capture just sounds like a lot of static and pops.
After pouring through all the posts here, I have looked at several pieces of software hoping for a solution (e.g. Nero, TMPGenc, VirtualDub, dScaler, Showshifter, etc.) None seem to capture AND decode the signal -- or at least I can't figure out how, if they do.
I've also downloaded Dolby Digital Recorder. That does decode the signal, but God help me if I know what to do with the recording. If I had any hair left, I'd be pulling it out by now.
Is there any (reasonably priced) software that will capture a component video signal and a dolby 5.1 audio signal? I have looked at things like Video Vegas, which would seem to do what I want, but the price is more than I'm currently willing to spend.
Alternatively, can I capture the video and audio separately and splice them together? Again, in a 'DVD Authoring for Dummies' approach? I tried doing this with TMPGenc, but it didn't like the format of the AC3 file that DDR was producing -- not a valid mpeg format or something like that.
Any new solutions would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks, and sorry for the long-winded post.
John
