I have just got a Pioneer A05 (internal) PC DVD -RW burner.
Also will be using the bundled Sonic MyDVD software to produce DVD from my own DV tapes.

Will the DVD so burnt be region coded? If so, can I change that?

There will be no region code, they will play in any machine compatible with the encoding, ie ntsc or pal, that you use.

Possible exception is if you are illegally cloning retail dvd's where the region code will probably copy as well.

I too own the Pioneer A05. I wouldn't have thought so, but as kenfowler3966 has said it depends on the software you use.

Personally when it comes to backing up my DVD's. I use 3 bits of software.
    1. DVD Decrypter - to extract DVD to Hard Disk
    2. DVD2ONE - Convert film to fit on 1 DVD-r
    3. IFOEDIT - Get VTS sectors
    4. Nero - burn film on DVD.

For making an exact duplicate of DVD (incl. extras , menu's)
    1. DVDXCOPY - although you will need 2 DVD-r's

It really couldn't be simpler !!
Problems come when trying to convert SVCD to DVD's. A bit trickier.
