    Hi
Nearly finished building my sub woofer but I have 2 questions
    1. Im worried about the kids probing the driver which will be front pointing along with the vent. Could I but the driver in the bottom (pointing down). If so what is the height of the ground required and which face would the vent be on. PS my floor is well carpeted.
2 How much acoustic wadding and on which surfaces
    Thanks in advance Carlo

Speaker grills are available from maplin electronics you may find something suitable there www.maplin.co.uk

You can get accoustic wadding from Wilmslow Audio https://secure.wilmslow-audio.co.uk/acatalog/Wilmslow_Audio_Acoustic_damping_materials_4.html

Mounting the speaker to fire downwards is okay, you need a gap of about 2 - 3".

    Regards
    Gary

Would it be daft to have the speaker facing the wall?

Am thinking of building my own, but know little.

Where is there more info on designing enclosures. The sourcing of driver and amp is the easy part.

WinISD is freeware speaker designing software. The 'Help' section explains all the design theories. It's not the most accurate program available but it's excellent to learn. It's advisable to use another for the actual 'real' design.
However if this is your first sub there's a lot to be said of using a tried and tested design. I did. Varoius plans are available on the net for various drivers.
You can use a great driver but if the enclosure is badly designed it will sound babba.

What driver are you planning on using??

    Cheers.
