Building System Up Slowly What Speakers sub £100

Hey all,

Im new to the audio game and on a pretty low budget (audio wise). I just brought a Sony STR-DE495 Amp and im looking to build up my system slowly finally having a 5.1 setup. I thought id start by buying the front 2 speakers first (kind of logical). Im a complete audio newbie all i have come across so far are the speakers in the Sticky at the top of this forum

These cost £93 a pair shipped.

The system is going to be connected by Optical Digital to my PC and Xbox360 (When it ships) for gaming, movies and alot of music.

Those are the satelites for the CD1 system, so I assume that instead of buying the CD 1 system straight off you are buying it bit by bit? Why not just save up for a while and buy the whole thing in one go, would be abit cheaper.

If you just get the two satellites they aren't gonna sound too good as they only go down to 80Hz. Until you get the sub they are going to sound awful. Maybe at leats get two satellites and the sub to start with and get the other 3 satellites later? At least then you can enjoy your speakers as a stereo pair straight away.

As far as whether or not they are any good, if it's a sub sat system you want, don't think you can do any better at the price if importing them - saves you loads. I auditioned quite a few sub/sat systems a while back, and at the UK price they more than hold their own, but at the import price I don't think there's much to compete with them.

 

Don't overlook the second hand market, all of my speakers were bought second hand over a period of time (all of them like new) and it saved me over half RRP.

 

So if i were to buy the Canton CD1 System (£240) would it all work with my Sony STR-DE495 Amp?, if so i might just go for that option.

 

secondhand seems to the best bet for a tight budget

 

What speakers would you recommend i get then if they are second hand?

Wharfedale Diamond 8.1 - £80

Which of those would you recommend?

 

i'd go Mordaunt Short Avant 902s £99 from comet. Much better than the AEs (too bass light) and Diamonds (too dull)

 

What Sub (looks like ive gotta go second hand as i only have around £150 left) would you recommend to go with the Mordaunt Short Avant 902s
