Hi, firstly i want to point out that i'm listing this in several forums as i think that the specialists may only visit the forums they know about.
Anyway, down to it, i'm about to move to a new flat (smallish livingroom) and am gonna get a totally new a/v setup.
All i'm keeping is my sky+ box, vcr & ps2.
I mostly have r2 dvds but about 50 or so r1's and about 100 dvd-r's.
I watch alot of sports, mainly football, but quite a few dvds aswell.
I want a tv at least 42", something that'll play dvds (r1, r2 & dvdrw) and surround sound.

1.Should i get an lcd, plasma, hd rp?
2.Should i get a htpc system to play all dvd's, burn dvd's, play music etc? or are stand alone dvd players, cd players and home cinema setups better?
3.What dvd/cd, home cinema, speaker package, htpc should i get?
    Please suggest models if possible.
4.Please also suggest anything else you think might be usefull like what cables/switches, stands, remote controls etc are best.

    BUDGET IS £2500
    , £2800 AT A PUSH

Thanks alot guys, your help is very much appreciated.

Can't really comment on any of your points as my "area" is DVD recorders - and you don't seem to want one of those :) Just a few observations though:

With a budget of sub £2000 for a 42" screen Plasma is by far the best option. I suggest speaking to HornyDragon over on the Plasmas forum - he is the deep expert in that topic.

Standalones are better - especially as your budget includes screen as well as sources! Others will disagree (very loudly) and fair enough.
