And how many of those are a patch on the original outing.

Bizarrely enough, I'm working my way through Buffy at the moment for the first time (that sentence probably needs a re-edit :)).

Finished Season 3 the other day and loving the smart dialogue and characters. Although I'm currently in mourning for
Armin Shimerman, loved his Principal Snyder.

Season 3 was superb. Some amazing episodes in that season especially when Faith arrived.
It was just before it started to go downhill a bit, Season 4 and 5 ok, the less said about season 6 the better, then improved for final season 7.

Have watched all the seasons and really enjoyed most of the episodes. But in my opinion unless they do an X-Files then don't bother.

Not sure if this is the right place, but Buffy and Angel are on offer at Amazon for £4.99 per season.

£60 for the whole lot digitally is great value imo. Works out at under 25p an episode.

Buffy is one of my all time favourite shows. I've seen it through a couple of times now, and I know I'm in the minority, but I thought it got better as it went on. It got darker, and it got more miserable, but it also became more nuanced and complex. The throwaway smart-assery wouldn't have worked in the same way. It reflected the characters' journeys from late adolescence into adulthood.

I love Firefly and Serenity (obvs), and even Angel. Nobody writes characters like Joss Whedon.

If Whedon gets on board for a revival, I'll cautiously follow... I'd love to see him return to TV. His film work is (mostly) fine, but I think he is better served by TV, where his characters have more room to grow.

Let's just all agree never to reboot this...

Where a revival works is if they do something like Ash vs Evil Dead: understand what made the original work, then allow for age & adapt accordingly.

Still going through Season 4 which is actually pretty decent so far (the "Initiative" is a nice addition).

Just watched the fantastic "Hush" episode which will be hard to top. The "Gentlemen" were outstanding :)

It's one of the standout episodes of the entire series. The body is also one of my all time favourites. Not sure if you have gotten to it yet, but it is one of the most powerful episodes of television.

Hush and The Body are two of the best episodes of television you will ever see, for completely different reasons too.

I'm lucky in that I haven't lost anyone close, but from what I've been told, if you have lost a close relative, you will find The Body a very, very powerful piece of television.

There is a link between the body and hush, other than it being a Buffy episode. It is, ironically as Joss Whedon is known for his fast paced and smart dialogue, silence. Other than the opening and closing theme, the body has no soundtrack.

Not one of my favourites tbh, it’s an episode only a show as popular as Buffy was at the time could get away with. I hate musicals at the best of times, so this is not high on my rewatch list.

    sorry you feel that way.
Yeah whats the point in tv shows full stop.

i think of it as another adaptation of the movie again

as far as remakes go, two words Battlestar Galactica

But here's the thing, at least Joss Whedon is still involved and it isn't the project that the Kazuis were trying to get off the ground a couple of years ago. A reboot doesn't have to be a bad thing and who is to say it won't be done well.

No, no, this is a step too far for me. The show is single handedly responsible for the wave of golden television right now and while most people mostly know Joss Whedon as the guy who made the Avengers, his magnum opus is indeed Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

A show far more ambitious than I think even Joss thought it was going to be. You simply cannot remake a show that has had such a big influence on popular culture. A lot of that is down to Whedon's idiosyncratic writing, which is the show thrived on the most. This was a show that made it's own literature and to not have Whedon in anything other than an 'executive producer role' (which is a formal way of saying 'we're paying him a healthy fee to have a credit on this just to give some importance to the show) is going to make it just another teen show about monsters.

I never watched Battlestar so I can't comment, but I do understand that the remake is supposed to be much better than the original, and word on the street is because the original wasn't actually a good show and was cheesy even for its time?

I mean, I was a 90s kid, but Roswell and Charmed were boring shows to me because they offered very little beyond absurdly attractive people dealing with sci-fi/supernatural events. Buffy The Vampire Slayer dealt with EVERYTHING. It was pretty much The Wire of the fantasy television in that it was like receiving a formal education when you watched it. Do you really think this reboot is going to capture what power of the original show without somebody like Whedon at the helm.

Seriously, I feel like i've lost my bloody mind reading about it being reboot. ANY show but this.

Out of consideration and fondness for the original I'm prepared to keep an open mind, so will give it a go.

Well i've heard that it's now going to be a sequel to the show not a reboot, so that's an improvement. I still won't be watching this simply because Whedon isn't involved in the creative process and it still seems a bit unnecessary. But I won't rally against it like I was prepared to when I heard of it being a 'reboot'.
