hi i am currenctly looking to buy a 28in widescreen tv, i am looking at around £300, i was going to get the thomson 28wh201s as whatvideotv gave it a very good review and the fact that comet where selling it for £299 but the day i got payed the price went back up to £349, im cursed

anyway i was looking at comet at the follwing tv's got my interest

GOODMANS K28W05 (229.99!!): this is a 28inch widescreen tv, although i cant really see it being much good at that price, can anyone comment?

TOSHIBA 28W33B (299.95): I noticed that all toshiba stuff gets good reviews at whatvideotv, however they havent reviewed this :(

does anyone know if these tv's are any good or should i just wait till the thomson 28wh201s goes back down in price (if it ever does)

The flat screen goodmans actually uses a Philips tube.
I didn't think the picture on it was too bad. Quite good for the money actually.

I think the flat screen thosmson @ £350 has a better picture.

The LG one doesn't have any RGB inputs. I was looking at it myself as I'm trying to find a decent 28" widescreen too.

If you don't mind the lack of RGB, it has got some VERY good reviews.

You can't go wrong with the jvc 28t25 avaliable for £330. Its won numerous awards in magazines for budget televisions. Got one last week, and its a very good all rounder.

I've just found out that my new local Argos (St Helens) is doing 10% off purchases over £30, so I can get this Toshiba 28W33B mentioned above for £270.

    Is this TV any good?

I've heard good things about Toshiba and they usually get good reviews.

Where is a good site for Widescreen TV reviews?

I'm trying to find reviews on the Panasonic TX28PS1 and the TX28PS12

Also, does anybody know why some Panasomics are listed with a C afterwards? for eg.

The TX28PS12 is also listed on some sites as the TX28PS12C is there a difference between the two!?!?

    Cheers

That is the right TV, and it was digitaldirect that I got it from. The sound is perfectly fine, can't fault it for a nicam model. I know what hi-fi sound and vision gave it awards in both group tests and the end of year review, but I'm sure I've seen others give it awards.

I work in a TV shop and I've seen the Tosh 28W33. I don't like it pesonally and IMO it doesn't reflect Toshiba's good reputation. Interestingly, the remote and TV casing looks worryingly similar to Pacifics and Bushes, and we know that these manufacturers should be nowhere near Tosh's league.

If you're prepared to give up a perfectly flat screen, the Philips 28PW6006C gives an excellent picture and has good sound. Coming to the end of it's life so can be found pretty cheaply as well.

Sorry to ask this question again, but i think ive decided to go for either the thomson 28WH201S at £350 or the JVC AV-28T25EKS at £330 so does anyone know which is better, i have tried to list out the differences:

    Thomson 28WH201S:
+ Got a very good review in whatvideotv
    + Newer Model
    - Not FlatScreen
    - Price

    JVC AV-28T25EKS
    + pure Flatscreen
    + slightly cheaper
    - much older model
    - whatvideotv said the sound output wasnt very good
    - (dont think it has a digital zoom)
    - the jvc was reviewed sep 02 making it a year older than 28wh201s

the JVC AV-28T25EKS original price is listed as £600 in the review,
do whatvideotv take into acount the price of the tv with there reviews (for example if the 28wh201s was £2000 insted of £350 would it have gotten a much worse review?)

anyone know what to go for, is it worth going for flatscreen or not?

Edit: Another model that looks good is the PHILIPS 28PW6517,
i cant find a review of it however but on comet its rated C C C on sound, picture and connectivity ( http://www.comet.co.uk/comet/html/cache/453_129151.html ).
This model is also £10 cheaper than the jvc, too many options, dont know what to go for, HELP!

The JVC has a top class picture and real flat tube. I think you would regret buying a 'bowed' tube. The 'flatties' always give a more cinematic piccy. This is a 'no-brainer', go for the JVC and plug it into a surround sound system, i'm sure you would be pleased with the results...TVs today should be all about picture quality as your home cinema sound looks after the 5.1/DTS audio:D :D :D

NB This is a lot of tv for only £350 inc delivery:clap:

    Cheap as chips:smashin:

You do not have to go OTT on surround sound, in terms of cost, to get a good result. An AV reciever with DTS and 5.1 Dolby can be had for upwards of £250 and speaker packages can be picked up for a similar amount (ensure speakers are magnetically shielded). Try Richer Sounds and Hyperfi for bargains, I would not go for ex-display or refurbished/graded products. Ensure what you get is brand new. I'll have a scout around for you and post links if I find any in the future, have a look in the hardware review section of HCCO, the cheaper stuff may be a couple of years out of date but that does not mean that it won't make you grin from ear to ear.:D

Wow I take it back! Receivers can be had for under £200 as can speaker packages. Yamaha, pioneer and Sony amps are all great value, check out the above mentioned sites and places like DigitalDirect. As long as you pick products with good past reviews i'm sure you will do fine on a budget of around £400:D

Good Luck, remember these products are great for movies if you want audiophile performance you will need to spend a huge amount. As an aside I have 4 tiny speakers and a sub on my pc that cost £50. To this day I am amazed at how well they reproduce a dvd soundtrack...don't think you have to spend a fortune for a very pleasing result...it's simply not true!:D :D
