    Hi guys!

My current sub formed part of a sony speaker package, but I feel like the need to upgrade!

I am in the market for a new sub and have a budget of circa £200...do you think I will notice a difference this price range?

I was look particulary at the Mission range of subs..primarily as my front three speakers are mission. They have a good reputation for main speakers..how are their subs?

Are there any others I should consider?

The Mordaunt Short MS309 is getting the good reviews at the moment. Not heard it myself but for £230, I would put it at the top of my list. I also think it would leave your Sony Sub for dead.

The runaway leader in the budget sub stakes is the Mordaunt Short MS309 which available at £230 if you look around carefully. According to What Hifi it is the only sub that they have ever heard under £250 that they have felt able to recommend and quite a few members here have now bought them and appear very happy with their purchase.

You will notice a significant difference between a sub of that quality and the Sony sub that you have been using.

There is no reason why one has to buy a sub from the same manufacturer as their speakers unless it is for aesthetic reasons and Mission aren't exactly reknowned for their subs anyway.

Hmmmm looks good to me...just one question though...

Does it come with a face grill? I'll never get it past the 'wife' otherwise with that big cone on display!!

I think it only comes in black and it has a 'lovely' black grill to hide the ally cone away.
I have it off for sound reasons and it also matches the Acoustic Evo's ally cones.

    WAF approved

Its also a fantastic sub. Highly recommended at the price

It comes (at the moment) in more colours than any other MS product. I have found online, Black & Cherry (Peter Tyson) and Maple and Vanadium (Just about everywhere else). The only colour we will make no more of is the cherry one.
It also has a detachable grill. Black and Maple are the best looking IMO.

My only connection with them is that this is my local AV shop.

Not allowed black in my house! Supposedly silver blends into the background better! Or so the the 'wife' says!

Is Vanadium silver? or the darker graphite silver I have seen with other MS products?

I mistakenly quoted only black because I remember reading on Peter tysons site where I got mine from that the sub only came in black and not actually looking arround. As tons of fun said it comes in four colours. :lesson: That teaches me for openiing my gob and not looking dont it

How can a large silver brick hide better than a large black brick?? Unless your walls and floor is silver

Um- its silverish . The upcoming 409 (the sub for our nearly ready Genie system) will be a proper silver finish- it will be £300, 200w downward firing with the standard room eq features and its own SPL metre to facilitate setup- that's the first time that fact has been revealed fact fans.

If you can up the budget a bit, go for a REL Quake - its tiny!
I've got mine tucked away behind one of my Kef floorstanders, so you can hardly see it..and it sounds amazing.
Got mine for £350 (prices don't vary much) in silver.
