Having got the HT room sorted nicely I'm thinking of putting a fairly modest (say under £300) integrated amp in the living room for a second system.

I'm thinking either something Richer Sounds Bargain or second-hand.

What would be a good product to go for, must have PLII but 5.1 would be fine.

Any idea what to look for?

    Cheers,

    Mark.

Last time I checked there were SR5300's (6.1, PLII etc) for £249 from RS and there seem to be some blinding offers online in this quiet pre-christmas time. Mara would be my poison though.

    Mark,

Have a Marantz SR5200 in black if you're interested. PLII, and 6 channel etc.

Saw the 5300 in Richer for £299 today not £249, but that's nothing new. I'll keep an eye out for a deal. Looks like just the ticket.:)

What does it have over the 5200?

@Joust:- How much would you be thinking of? I'd need to ship to Kent/London BTW.

    Cheers,

    Mark.

The 5300 has DTS ES and NEO which the 5200 has not.
Also although the 5200 does Matrix /EX decoding it is not official ie No Dolby Digital EX Badge.

    I have a 5300 and I love it.:D

SRS Circle Surround II??? The SR5300 has that over the 5200.

Also has Dolby Digital Surround EX as opposed to Matrix EX or whatever it used to be called. Aside from that they're pretty similar - oh, it has DTS Neo 6 too, the SR5200 didn't have that.

    Hi Mark,

Shipped to Kent I would be looking at £210.

However, I will be down in Essex next week on Wednesday (down near Basildon), perhaps we could meet somewhere mutual to make an exchange? In this case I would be looking for £200.

    Cheers

    Hi Joust.

Thanks for the offer but to be honest the 5300 has my mouth watering @ £249 and if I can find one new (with warrantee) for that price I think that would be the best option for me.

The 5200 does appear to be a mighty fine piece of kit in it's price range too though. You dhould put it on the Forum Classifieds?

    Thanks again,

    Mark.

Mark - the sound of the 5200 and 5300 is pretty much the same, it's just the processing nicities that make the biggest difference, but it's quite a difference, and is worth £40 over the SR5200.

These babaies have 6 channel inputs too!:D

I've now found them for £249 (Richer Sounds) so looks like the beast for me.

Now I just need to find a budget or S/H DVD SACD/DVD-A Capable DVD Player and some S/H speakers and room 2 will be complete:) I'll put a WTB in the Classifieds.

    Thanks guys

    Mark.

I posted a separate question in the DVD forum to avoid me going off-topic, but I'm sure they won't maind me saying "Thanks for that!". Sounds ideal:)

I wasn't angling for a price reduction from you. I think with brand new @ £249 I really don't think I want the older version. The added processing features and the warrantee make it a safe bet. I also saw a review for the Pioneer VSX-D812 which is only £300 RRP.

I think you'll need to should put the 5200 in the classifieds, but thanks for the chance of making you an offer:)

    Cheers,

    Mark.
