hello there to everyone at the forum, as u can see i'm new to this and i would like some advice on buying projector

Max price approx £1500 (excl screen) and the ability to project an image on a 6ft screen from 15 ft away.

I have no experience with this, so any help would be appreciated, cheers.

That's a rather long throw. Most home cinema projectors have a short throw/wide angle lens that won't throw a picture that small from such a distance. One exception is the inFocus X1, which can be had for under £800 and is very good value as long you are immune to the DLP 'rainbow effect' that some suffer from.

For more information on the throw of various pjs, go to:
    http://www.projectorcentral.com/projection-calculator.cfm

You should be able to use the calculator there to get a list of pjs that would suit your setup.

If you plump for a DLP projector, you must demo it first to check for your susceptibility to rainbows.

Check out this link (from Sean G's Projector FAQ in this forum). Does my head in...

I use my AE200 on a small coffee table and then put it back in it's case after use to keep it all wife friendly. Could you not do the same?

Nexnix in Horsham will do you an exceleent DLP PJ - the Sharp-XV-Z91E - for £1500 inc free prog scan dvd player at the mo. I can recommend the PJ, and they'll also do you a deal on a screen if you don't want the dvd... hey and guess what - my wife's happy with it!!
