As per title, I'm looking to buy my Dad (don't tell him :D ) a DVD player for Xmas. It'll go straight into the TV via scart (anything else'll just confuse him, and an AV amp he wouldn't understand I'm afraid). Can anyone recommend what I should go for? I'm really only therefore interested in picture quality and reliability, and ability to play bog standard DVD video only (anything else will be wasted  ) Looking probably at £60 or so....

    Thanks!

Do a quick search for the Toshiba SD240 and 340, cracking DVD players. I believe Richer Sounds have them cheap (the 340 is £80 but the 240 is probably in budget).

You will get a Tosh 240 in Tesco for only £50! You really cant fall off. Theyre excellent budget players.

    :censored:

I'm tempted at that price and I've got a 330e!

The Tescos one won't be multi-region though, Richers will De-region it for you.

Thanks guys for the quick replies :) Just been doing a quick trawl of my own in the meantime, and would ask further if anyone can give me an opinion on how the Tosh measures up picture-wise to the Sony 355???

    Thanks again!

Dont know about the Sony models. They never seem to be up there with the best i.e. Tosh, Pioneer, Yamaha. I would imagine you wont find a better machine for the money than the Tosh.

I'm also after a budget DVD/CD player (CD doesn't need to be highest fi - just capable). But it must play DVD-RW (video mode, finalised from a Pioneer recorder). Will the Tesco Tosh 240 do this does anyone know?

Morrisons are selling a Crown machine for £30 ??????

    Thanks
