Looking for a budget but good AV Receiver and 5.1 Speaker set for my mancave project.

Home theatre is a secondary concern and originally I didn't have a TV in the plans at all. But with scope creep I now have a 55" TV and had planned to use a soundbar. But the soundbar soon added a sub-woofer and I'm now thinking that I may as well go 5.1

    So what do I want

An AV Amp. Black. Don't need oodles of power - it will only be driving small speakers. 5.1 is fine. Must have HDMI switching. 1080P is sufficient. A low height one would be great but not essential.

5.1 Speakers (so including a sub). Reasonable quality. Black. Can be small (Just for movies and PC). Something like Keff eggs or Canton Movie system would be great.

AV and Speakers as a package would be great but happy to consider them separately.

Budget - £200 - £300 would be great but have some flexibility.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

Thanks, I will look into it. Do you know if it will display the GUI (user interface) over HDMI. I'm beginning to notice that some AVRs don't and you need to resort to the small display on the AVR.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

I have a spare onkyo tx-sr607. I don't have the original box, but I do have something suitable to ship in.

It has some scratches at the back pannel next to the hdmi inputs from me fumbling and the odd mark on top. Its still v good overall. Comes with remote and set up mic

    £70 + shipping? Its a solid amp.

If your interested I can sort out pics.

    Hi Nigel

I too have a black Denon AVR-2311 in excellent condition that I would like to offer to you. It comes with everything that it came with originally, including manual (in a paper version) remote control, Audessy set up mic etc. I have the original box and packaging. I will also make the 20 or so mile trip to Horsham and deliver it in person. I would have posted this earlier but took heed of your budget and thought it might not suit. However as others have offered similar items, here you go.

I have owned this from new (bought November 2010), and have the original receipt. The 2311 has had light use in a second system. That was in a pet and smoke free environment. Never had any issues with it - Japanese reliability I guess. Asking price is also £175.

    Hi,

Just to let you know that I'm not ignorring you. I need to check at the weekend how much space I have in the TV unit - whether I can fit a full height AVR or whether I need a low profile one.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

How about a black Denon AVR X2100 which is the current model it's only a couple of days old and I bought it to replace the pre power I gave for sale here which isn't going to sell.
it comes boxed as new with receipt for 12 months warranty and all the bits.
I paid £225 for it as I do some work for Richer Sounds every now and again but yiu can have it - delivered personally for £220 which is a saving of £30 of the current price they sell for and it was originally a £500 receiver.
bear in mind please that if my pre power sells then this is no longer available

Just to put everyone in the picture. i am doing a garage conversion and the TV will be surrounded by Ikea Besta units which will make ap the AV rack and general storage.

I had hoped to have it by now, but Ikea delayed the order. It arrived on Monday sitting in the garage but I am out of the country on business and don't get back until Saturday morning.

The way I have the Besta planned at the moment it will be tight or impossible to fit a full height AVR. Until I get back and see it in the flesh I don't whether it would work as planned because although the website tells me the overall dimensions it does give thickness of tops, bottoms, shelve etc.

My first job on Saturday will be to assemble the TV unit and see what I really have to play with. I would prefer a full height AVR because I think the low profile ones must compromise the design. But the low profile design would be neater.

I'll have to wait and see until Saturday to find out how much space I have to play with.

    Cheers,

    Nigel

Archiving - done the measurements and I really do need a low prile AVR. They are like hens teeth on the second hand market and the few that I have seen have gone for close to new price. So I guess I will have to buy new.

    Cheers,

    Nigel
