Hi I am in the process of choosing a new TV I have heard a lot about Hisence ( My son has one and loves it ) but choosing which one.
This where I need some help please at the moment I have a LG 46" which I am going to give to my son because the TV he has at the moment can not take HDMI so I can now come up to date with a new TV it can not be larger than 50" because I will sit about 6-7 feet away. I have a virgin Set top box and Alexa ( Do not know how to use it yet waiting for my son to come over to help me sort that out . So Far I have looked at the 2020 Models on Amozon the list is so far are as follows
Hisence 50A7100FT 50" 4KUHD smart TV With Freeview & Alexa Do I need the free view as I have my Virgin box already and do not have a aerial on my roof. On the alexa front as it is built in can that control the TV via the build in Alexa. I know I have to buy a special Plug for Alexa to work. Should I go for the above set at £379 or this one from Currys I did see a other one from Argus Called Rocku Hisence but do not know what that means.Just to add I am 71 not interested in games and the only apps I use are the BBC i player Nexfix and Amozon Prime. Hope this helps. Thanks

As far as I can tell the A7300 is on a more up-to-date Smart platform (Vidaa U4 rather than version U3 on the A7100, only the 75" A7100 is on version U4). Freeview does not have to be used no, just select the HDMI port input the Virgin box is connected to. The WiFi seems limited to the 2.4Ghz band on both the A7100 and A7300 (from the A7500 up you can also use the 5Ghz band)
Roku is just another Smart TV platform like Android TV and the Vidaa U by Hisense.

Here is a presentation of U4 and looks like it has everything you need (BBC iPlayer, Netflix and Prime)

The A7200 Roku model at Argos seems to be a 2021 model and supports the Disney Plus app as well, something that has been a glaring ommision on the Vidaa U platform so far. Also supports dual-band WiFi and according to the Hisense website has a headphone out port (which apparently the A7100 and A7300 don't). It might also have a more powerful processor running the Roku smart platform.

Shorter introduction to Roku tv in this video:

Thanks so do you say go for the Curry model rather The one I showed on The Amozon Site
Amazon product ASIN B089P2B224 Thank You for your help so far I have not brought a new TV since 2015 with My Samsung 7500 Which I also brought the extra unit that you could buy it was meant to give you HDR Basic I think it was called SK300 at a cost at £300 and had it calibrated as well at extra £300 !!! I bet things have changed since then I presume

With Vidaa you won't need freeview to use the TV, but you will need a signal if you want to use Freeview play to use the UK catchup apps.

On the Roku you won't have this limitation.

A bit confused now at the moment in what you are saying I use my Virgin Box to watch all my catch up stuff inc Yesterday Uk Channels etc inc Amozon Netfix are you saying that is not the case if I go for the standard Hisence as pointed above I have to use the freeview channel to watch these channels I already watch

Ok have read a bit more I see that the Roku is just a app system is it worth going for or is the Standard one is the one to go for. Had a look at the other Hisence model this one but been told it is not that great with edge bleeding dirty screen effects etc Are there any other models you would recomend I am so sorry about this and all the Q I am asking but not looked at a other TV for years I have a Max of £450 if there is anything better in this price at all. It all seems to point to ROKU verson from Argos which looks like 2021 version. Thanks for the help
Amazon product ASIN B089N5VJGVThere is this one Amazon.co.uk : hisense 50 inch tv smart 4k

Buy from somewhere offering an extended warranty, not Amazon or Argos if you can

No budget TV is going to be issue free unfortunately

I do not mind paying extra for a Warranty for peace of mind it is just which one to go for

Richer sounds have several Hisense models all with 6 year warranty. Including a new one with VIDAA U5 if that’s better than 4 or 3

All TVs have Freeview, you don’t have to connect or tune it though.
You can add an Amazon Firestick for the Smart stuff if needed

Right should I go for the Roku version or the one with alexi etc Thanks

I don’t know. If you have Alexa, then maybe that one?
What functions do you want? What are you actually looking for it to do?
This one has iPlayer, Amazon, Netflix apps built in

Your first post is a bit confusing to me though.

Sorry Vickster to confuse you I will try and explain it a bit better I was going to go for Hisence 50 A7100FT with all the trimmings or go for the Hisence Roku Which is more up to date. I do have Alexi but not set up yet as not have a clue how to do it??. Waiting for my son to come round to do it for me I know this much I have to pay £28 for a special plug for each un alexi item I have for alexi to work That is why I asked about the built in Alexi on the TV Do I have to buy a special plug to use the Alexi on the TV
So This is what I need help with
1 ) Go with the Richer sounds model with 6 year Warranty but delivery charge
2) Go with the one with Amozon Prime 2 year warranty
3) Go with the Roku one From Argos which seems More up to date has 2 year Warranty with a option to have extra cover @ £5 per mth from Argus Care. Plus can I use my smart Phone to control these TVs Sorry about the confusion

I’m afraid I don’t know anything about Alexa. Don’t need Amazon in my life beyond shopping :D
Is Alexi the male Russian version? :D

Don’t waste all that money on extra care, does it have to be a Hisense TV?
Could get another brand with a free extended warranty
Argos are just box shifters, not an AV specialist

Have a think about how you intend to use your TV. If you are using your Virgin box for smart TV purposes then it doesn't matter about the smart TV platform.

If you want to use the TV instead of your Virgin box- then it does matter.
Hisense models with Vidaa will not let you use iPlayer etc unless you have a Freeview antenna plugged in and you tune the TV.
Hisense models with Roku don't have this problem, and do not require to be connected to the internet to run UK catchup apps.

I Think I will take the Choice you gave Richersounds i get 6 year warranty and free delivery Total Cost £379 do you think that is the best choice also is there a app for my smart Phone. The Reason I am getting Hisence is it seems the best TV for the Money I do not know about the male Version Alexi :D

Given how rubbish Virgin is for catch up it sounds like a Roku version might be better although it appears only Argos and Amazon sell (unless JL or similar have for 2021?)

I need the extra Warranty back up which I get with Richersounds 6 years free the Roku is only sold by Argos If I could get that from Richersound then I would get it from there

You could add a firestick or Roku stick to the other tv presumably @Dodgexander attach to wifi and use that for apps?

Now Totally Confused big time What to do it looks like go for the Roku then and Sod the warranty. As If I go for the non Roku one I can not use any of there apps Like Netfix etc unless I have Freeview connected which I do not want to do that it seems a bit harsh not allowing to use the apps unless you use free view

Its only apps from broadcast TV stations in the UK you can't use without Freeview connected.
Streaming apps like Netflix, Amazon etc do not require it.

Its because the app that provides all catchup on most smart TVs (called Freeview play) has a security restriction that stops you from using the catchup apps unless it finds a signal. That could be fixed easily anyway by plugging in a portable antenna. Chances are you'll get some reception.

Catchup TV = iPlayer, All4, ITV player, My 5
Streaming TV = Netflix, Amazon, Disney etc

So does this help me if I go to Argos to get the TV as I can not found anywhere else who sells them
Hisense | 5 Year Warranty Promotion | Terms and Conditions I have never had to go though this before. in the bad days when I got my Samsung TV everything came with a free 5 year warranty  :( :suicide:

I wouldn't personally care for a 5 year warranty, most TVs break within a year if they do break. And failure rates are around 2-3%.

The link on Hisense's website is for white goods, not TVs.

When a shop like Richer Sounds offers 5/6 year warranties its not from the TV manufacturer.

1st year will be from Hisense.
Years 2-6 will be from a 3rd party insurer.

So basically they sell you a free 5 year warranty from Direct and General that bundles on top of the standard 1 year Hisense warranty.

This is a cheap TV, if you want the better smart built in do not fret about a 1 year warranty.

Saw this any good .
Just seen both your Guys Replies So what are you saying get a Roku stick go for richer sounds one or go for the Argos one and just take the basic Warranty and replace in two years with a better model . I have had my Samsung 7500 since 2014 still love it. (I might have to change my mind if the Hisence is a lot better) I did have my Samsung done by Vince What a great bloke he is. I only would go with Richersound Because they know what they are talking about!!.
At this time before we go any further I would like to thank both you guys big time for all the help you have given me so far to a Idiot like me :confused::) I do own a Amozon Stick by the way. I do not know much about these sticks as not used any yet. Is the Argos one better overall and just take the 2 year warranty. I will take your advice as you are the experts

That's one of TCLs new 2021 TVs with Roku built in. I'd expect it to be similar picture quality to the Hisense 50" models. Have to wait to see some reviews to know what things like colour accuracy and contrast will be like!

No problem btw, glad to help!
