I've been putting off the 4k tv for the lounge (we have a cheap samsung one in the bedroom I picked up last year, and it's surprisingly good), this may tip me over the edge though, wonder how much the 4k YouView box will cost though...

Sounds really good. I am with BT, they rang me up the other week and offered me two of their new channels which will be dedicated to the Champions League and Europa. Their offer is actually looking pretty good.

I am also very lucky to be able to get fibre in a rural village. My only real issue is my 42inch LG from 2009 is still going strong and a decent 4k set is still just too much money.

Given the high profile launch, they probably don't want any negative publicity due to someone wiring it up wrong, having too slow broadband or trying to use it with a non-UHD TV.

Don't laugh, but I once helped an elderly friend of a friend who had his SkyHD connected to his HD TV using a SCART connection.

That's not as uncommon as you think. I've been to plenty of customers houses who have their Sky+HD boxes connected by SCART even though they had an HD set when the Sky engineer came and fitted the box. Sometimes the engineers have the cheek to take the HDMI cable that comes in the box away with them.

      Just ordered my new box.

No engineer delivery - they just send by post with a returns bag for the old kit.
Cost to swap box is £49 and (in my case) the net subscription increase is only £6 per month more than I am currently paying. My TV subs were due to go up by £2.50 next January any way. You also don't have to pay the HD extra subscription as the £15 per month for the 4k service is all inclusive.

Calling these people 'engineers' is doing a disservice to actual engineers. They are 'installers' at best.

So I gave them a call as Sky is expiring.
      Key points:
      - They will buy out your existing broadband/fibre provider when you provide them with buyout costs.
      - Total monthly cost is £61.99 (BBand £30, Landline £15.99, TV £15) add £22.50 if you want Sky Sports 1&2
      - Total one-off install cost is £88.95 (£44 install fee/£35 connection charge/£6.95 router delivery)
      - £500 LG voucher: you must purchase through BT TV Shop which is overpriced (e.g. LGUF950V form JL £2199.99 even £1899 if you can trade in an old TV, BT shop cost £2499.99!!!)

It sucks how BT wont let you buy the 4K Service online as the broadband prices are cheaper.

What a waste of UHD bandwidth. Sodding football. Of all the wonderful things UHD could be used for to pick sodding football. I won't be going near it. It's hard to think of anything less deserving of UHD bandwidth. We had a Youview box but it was too unreliable as well - Freetime on Freesat is massively more reliable in our next of the woods.

Well, as BT refuse to hook our estate up to BT Infinity they can go and **** my big ***** ****.

Despite all the streets around our estate being on Infinity, they insisted we clubbed together and pay them £20,000 for the estate to be upgraded.

No, we're not in the sticks. We're in a large suburb, a couple of miles from the town centre.

Moto GP should look stunning, the Repsol bikes in slow mo look spectacular in HD (well the 20mbit feeds, not the broadcast junk) :) took F1 a few years after Moto GP to switch to HD.

BT don't plan on laying any fibre here so its a none starter for me. I expect Sky to announce something. The wont let BT steal the limelight for to long when Prem Footy is involved. Once Sky do jump in and provide a Sat receiver then BT are sure to add a channel via sat

The footy is supposed to be 50fps so I guess that certain 2013 4k TV won't display properly?

if the youview box allows 4k to 1080 down conversion the the PQ will still look stellar, destroying any 1080 derived picture.

Rugby is a waste of bandwidth, let's face it, it's football that drives sports subs, no football and folks won't be so keen to sign up, that's the truth of it.

If you are thinking of getting UHD it is worth testing the broadband connection. A minimum of 20Mbps is required at the moment. And that has to be stable enough to handle the stream.

not fussed myself. For one my hd version is free. Football on BT is trash unless you watch football religiously. MotoGP is trash also, lost all its magic and is always a 2 horse race. Been boring since supersic passed away. Much prefer bsb,wsb and super stock.

Give me some ufc and I might be tempted.
