As it says
This is a great result for Sky Sports HD subscribers!!
I thought it was announced they have 4 of 6.
Cannot find any links??
It's breaking news on the BBC sport website - no page on there showing the story yet.
Take a look at Sky News
That is good news!
Just waiting for the exact details now.
I think we are going to see a major change in the next year or so, I can not see how Setanta who have never even broke even under the current contract can survive as they are even if they have won the remaining package.
Call me a fool but wouldn't it be nice for a free broadcaster to have secured the last package, granted BBC would find it hard to justify, ITV and CH4 can't afford it and Five have no great interest.
£1.6 Billion over 3 years, who said there is a recession and is the C pack monday night footy?
For all Sky's faults their football coverage is second to none! The debarcle from the Liverpool v Everton game shows how ITV do it and Setanta's PQ ... enough said! It's just a pity the BBC don't offer the MOD highlights in HD!
Edit: Perhaps Setanta will be able to invest some of their 'losses' into HD now?

I bet Pdoherty76 wishes he could respond to this thread .Sadly he is on a forum "Holiday" lol.
Up from 92 ( currently? ) to 115 ( of 138 available ) live games per season starting from 2010. On Sky Sports News now. Bye bye Setanta.
Edit: 1643hrs latest.
Yep. As soon as the IPL is finished, I too will be cancelling my Setanta sub!
Yes Setanta can continue to sell their service to the customers who are not there for the footy but how can they offer a single PL package regardless of FA rights and maintain a workable pricing model both to DTH and even VM may question the value of the wholesale purchase for their XL customers.
The time for ESPN to take over on the cheap and gear up for an assault on the PAY tv market in three years?
Sultana got Package D. See Premier League football news from the Barclays Premier League | Premier League statement
Will this mean a return to 'PremPlus' ?
Could well do, PremPlus HD hopefully.
That was always a major gripe for me! With the EU interference we ended up with it dearer to see the same amount of games by having to subscribe to Setanta and losing the HD coverage. Pleased I didn't give in and subscribe to Setanta. I just hope Sky get the USPGA back too! Having said that, I have no objection to some serious competition to Sky from ESPN if it's forthcoming, we'll have to wait and see what happens over the coming months.
Nice. I can live without watching 23 of their games in dreadful SD. I'll go to the pub instead, and look forward to all the other games on Sky HD instead. Even if the Sports sub goes up, it'll still be worth it IMHO. I've had it up to HERE with Setanta's lousy signal and weather-related dropouts.
Slightly off topic, does anyone know when the USPGA rights are next up for grabs?
I miss the Sky coverage of the USPGA tour, and if and when sky get this back, and in HD, the end of Setanta will be confirmed
Lets hope not, it should be part of the package.
Prem Plus I think was set up at the request of the PL anyway wasn't it as they wanted to test the PPV market? Also the PPV was not exclusive to Sky, it was across all platforms wasn't it?
Setanta has just started the third of six years' rights
However, some small consolation is that Eurosport HD shows an hour's highlights on Wednesday evenings, in HD.
Obviously this doesn't kick in for another what, 18 months ,but it certainly will put pressure on them.
Bearing in mind they did a deal with virgin so its part of their sports package I wonder if they'll try & do a deal with Sky now, did they last time I can't remember? Sky are certainly in a stronger position now if they did.
Thank God Sky have got some back. Sultana is proper crap
I'm pleased, i just wish Sky would show more games live rather than on football first, thats what was great about having prem plus, you often got a choice about what match to watch and for simultaneous games it was a godsend.
Maybe they'll utilise SS1 and SS2 to show games at the same time. Either way, the sooner setanta buggers off the better, I subscribe now (like UFC and SPL along with FA cup etc) but the sooner they go under and are replaced the better. Setanta are a horrific company, bad commentary, bad picture quality and no multiroom (extra tenner for it), they are unapologetic either and have appeared numerous times on watchdog due to billing issues and inability to solve signal trouble.
I have never been a Setanta customer, and never intended to either.
You just can't beat Sky for the footy
3pm saturday games for Setanta only then?
I suppose they'll lose the 5.30pm saturday games to Sky, which will most likely be on Prem Plus HD again.
I'm with Setanta and have no issues with the service only if the rain hits and your signal drops below 60%, you get picture break up or no signal at all.
They currently have a good selection of games, which will appeal to Man Utd and Liverpool fans as they show alot of those.
Showing the UFC is also a bonus.
3pm Saturday games - surely you jest!
Setanta keep the 530 Saturday games only I think.
"Footballs coming home, etc"
So dou think we will see the return on Prem Plus?well i certainly hope so as it worked out cheaper and the games were in glorious HDSetanta's pq is awful
For their overseas markets sold under a different contract not the UK obviously 3pm kick offs are allowed and it's worth remembering that Setanta are more than the UK service, that operation may be in jeopardy but their other markets are probably unaffected.
I hope not, incorporate the new package into SKY Sports and that justifies any price rise that year.
I don't think any of us want to see SKY reduce the number of games on SKY Sports to pad a PPV season ticket offering or that the price of the season ticket could be profitable or marketable based on a couple of dozen games.
Sky have got the Monday games.
