Does anyone have any UK prices for the Bryston Power amps? In particular the 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and 14.

    Thanks

    Nic,

Do you know that there is a new generation of Bryston powers, the SST ?

The 14 and the 6 started it, more current capacity and better transistors... they have a slightly different faceplate, you can see them on their website...

Although SST models are not available in the UK yet I understand that prices are going up by about 10% to cover the upgrade!

Thanks guys for all the info. I am consistently impressed by the amps of this company but have mainly heard the 5 channel 120w unit. I am interested in either the 7 monoblocks or the 14, not quite sure what the difference is at the moment other than the obvious case thing. Need to track some down first, perhaps I will speak to StereoStereo as they are a PMC dealer.

PMC recon the SST is the much better range with the 14 SST now bettering the 7 ST. The 7SST they are currently working on. I look forward to demoing the SSTs

If you were a little closer I would have been happy to let you have a listen! Regarding the extra 3DB's of the 14B, I'm not sure I would ever need it.

Be aware that the SST models actually produce more power anyway, the SST 4B is rated at 300W per channel versus 250W for the older ST unit.

I will be happy to share my findings with everyone on the Bryston amps. In respect to equipment selection, I did receive some advise from a few very helpfull individuals in the forum, that helped a lot.

Have you considered the JLH Monoblocs? Don't think you'll have a problem with quality, (Krell territory, more than capable of driving Ref 4's) and at £750 a pop for the SE version pretty good value I would say.

    More info here www.williamshart.com

    EDIT:

Best check the latest price with Shaun Williams, the standard version was £675 and the SE upgrade was around £150 extra per monobloc (I got a bit of discount for buying five).

    Is it a power increase?
Is it that Bryston now quote outputs that more accurately reflect their performance. Previously, Bryston amplifiers when tested traditionally achieved far more than their rated power, they now take the view that the figures stated should be closer to actual outputs.
I'm just curious, having read the information on www.bryston.ca
I was looking at the new processor details.
How would the Bryston SP1.7/9B SST THX combo compare with a Denon AVC-A1SR, hugely better ?, especially 2-Channel CD replay?
    20 year warranty !

I will check you suggestion out. Beamer, thanks for the offer you may regret it! i have a habit of travelling around the country and often organoise 'work' where my AV interests take me. Ask GaryG. Seriously though, I am very interested in how it all pans out.

The offer stands, I will let you know when the beast's arrive and how they perform.

Regarding the power rating, I'm led to believe the extra power is the result of beefier output transistors.
