Part 3 already, how did that happen so quick, great news though, either shows that Bryston is really on it at the moment or we all talk a lot of rubbish, I'll let others decide on that one

Tonight showed the real power of the SP3 though, as I've just watched the Brits and it even made the rubbish they call music now sound good, well most of it anyway, I've just read that back, wow, that makes me sound old  at least Lena Del ray got an award, definitely the best album I've bought in a while, can't believe that they almost pushed Adele of the stage as she was about to make her thank you speech for best album so Blur could get on, shocking really, she didn't look impressed.

So come on alpha, when are we going to get some pics of your SP3 in it's final resting place with all the other Blue Led's, really keen to see it :)

Shouldn't be too much longer on the BHA-1 I hope, I know it is going to be shown at Bristol, which unfortunately it doesn't look like I'm going to be able to make, and hopefully mine is with the same batch that is coming over from Bryston, may have to make a call tomorrow.

Haven't had a chance to get on here for a few days as the joys of modern music listening and damn networks have been the bane of my life for a few days, basically our network went down just before our Linn open day, doh, I managed to cobble my laptop into a server with the thanks of asset to get me through the open day, since then I've been trying to get our network back to 100% reliability, getting there now at last, makes you realise what a great idea the BDP-1 is as at least it doesn't need a network to run, and especially how invaluable our LP12 is as that always works and sounds amazing.

Due to all the problems it has given me the chance to pull all our kit out and re do all our demo rooms and play with all the kit properly, the first time really since joining Zinc, especially now that I run the HiFi part, it has given me the opportunity to make it my domain and I have to say that Linns app, kinsky, is in a different league to anything else out there, especially the songcast feature, being able to play You Tube on the Ipad then with the click of an icon it comes straight out the Linn system, is very cool indeed, my next purchase to my Bryston System will definately be an airport express to bring this feature to it, along with the ZP90, it really brings my system up to another gadgety level, more toys basically :) But I really feel every HiFi at what ever level should have a ZP90 or equivilent, to bring in the internet services, and together with Airplay, it really rounds of the system.

Vipers I cannot agree more my Linn DS allows me to play music from the Internet I have a network of Airport Express's that I use to play music in different rooms and although they don't do anything above CD quality they work well and can all be controlled using my iPad

I do however use AirPlay to stream music from my server to my iPad so I can use it as a big iPod when in the house

Kinky is a great app but it has taken a long time to get to that standard and early efforts were hard to love

Lastly I just cannot get on with the Lana Del Rey album beyond born to die and the original singles Video games and Blue Jeans the rest leaves me cold I'm afraid bit like Blur to be honest

    But For the Mods !!

Bryston is obviously better than all the rest even when compared to others

    I will get my coat

Your wish is my command, it doesn't get more Bryston than this gratuitous hifi porn, you will have to excuse the quality of the photo, I blame the cheap camera :suicide:

It did sound good through the SP3. I would also suggest keeping an eye out on I think it is Sky Arts-HD they do some fabulous sounding Music Sessions - I have a recording of the Session that K T Tunstall did (includes a mental version of Black Horse..) I played that through the SP3 for the first time a couple of nights ago and it blew me away :D

I am loving my entire system now the SP3 has landed, it may be stupendously expensive, but worth every penny to me..

    Cheers

If those pics don't bring a load of Bryston product back into dealers for a blue light upgrade, I don't know what will!

    I love the blue LED's!

Bryston should offer them as standard, and the red ones as exception.

Alas, I have a SP3 with green LED's, but because one can completely turn off the display (inclusive the LED's), it isn't a real problem.

Sorry that was my fault  but to be fair I was talking about adding Sonos's and Airplay products into an existing Bryston rig and although this is a Bryston thread I think it is only fair that we talk about other products every now and again, I wouldn't want to be branded a fan boy

Awesome alpha, I'm guessing, but I'd say you have a truly unique system there, I'm looking on with very envious eyes, blue is definately the colour, I really wish I'd thought of that one, congratulations mate :smashin:

I know you've waited patiently for a Bryston Processor, and like you say it is silly money, but boy is it good, enjoy :)

I am sad enough to follow Bryston on Facebook and they announced that it would be an option "Its a small thing, but Bryston now offers blue LED's..."- so Alpha - thats a global impact you've made! Incidentally thats also a wonderful looking setup!

I pickup my loan unit on Monday for about a week, so we're see if I decide that I get to join the club....

Thanks Jürgen, how are you getting on with the SP3, I think you were going to compare it with an Audionet amp on a home demo?

Cheers, I feel like a celeb

Be really interesting to see how you get on, the two channel performance of the SP3 is amazing to me, I was playing 'Fionn Regan - 100 Acres of Sycamore' earlier whilst trying to read, I gave up and just enjoyed the music :D

Again, you are spot on alpha, as a massive Springsteen fan I watched the Elvis Costello sessions where he interviewed the boss over a couple of hours on Sky Arts, it sounded awesome, I have to say Elvis's tributes to Bruce were pretty impressive also, I wasn't a fan before but he's actually pretty talented ;)

If it was an easy upgrade I would have to say I'd be extremely tempted, especially as my Oppo 95 and Linn phono stage already has blue LED's, it would be rude not to really, I feel a question for James coming on :)

Agreed, if only you could turn off the LED's on the BCD-1, BDA-1, BDP-1 and 7B's then It would be no problem at all

I couldn't compare the SP3 and the Audionet MAP V2. The only comparison is by memory and that is a comparison I don't trust. I always admired the clarity and refinement of the sound of the MAP V2. Probably the SP3 is even better.

What I did compare was the stereo sound of the DAC of the SP3 to the DAC of the Audionet player VIP G3, by using an analogue and an coaxial connection.
With my remote I could switch between the two with a toggle.
I expected the SP3 to do its work a little better than the VIP G3. With my eyes open listening I can confirm it. BUT: when I closed my eyes and toggled a few times and didn't know which I had chosen, I couldn't distinguish between the two. Which is really a great compliment for the SP3. And just what I hoped for.
(You can find information about the VIP G3 on the website by Audionet (there is an English version, too).)

For stereo I have the SP3 connected to two Audionet MAX, which are connected to two B&W 800Di.

For the comparison I used a classic sampler CD, as I am foremost a classic music / opera listener - and viewer! (Blu Ray and DVD).

    Hi All,

I attended The Bristol Show on a Saturday hoping it would be quieter than the Sunday. It was not. Foot traffic aside it was another great Bristol show.
There wasn't so much in the way of high end releases this year. I noticed a fair number of new speakers.
The new Spendor floor standers confused me, in that they didn't have their traditional sound. They were actually quite cold & harsh.
Rega had a set of transmission lines, which were warm & lovely.
Usher had a super sounding set of diamond tweetered floor standers.
There was a great deal of Naim amplification around. I counted at least 5 rooms. One of which was the Focal room.
Again, not impressive at all. The sound was very muddy. Every room in which I heard Naim equipment (Spendor included) sounded different, of course. But none of them sounded quite right. I don't know if it is a partnering issue, because I have heard each manufacturer in isolation and enjoyed the sound. Very strange.
Focal did have their first set of headphones there. At £200 I thought they presented a great buy. Beautifully finished and the great sound quality I know can come from Focal.
Leema always impress me & this year had the lower end components. A very dry and punchy presentation. Thankfully they are not the kind of company whose sound has huge disparity between price points. Their signature sound is easily noticeable, whether one is listening to their top end equipment or their entry level DAC.
I didn't manage to get into the What Hi-Fi room, to hear the 11 speaker PMC/Bryston set up. I did, however, sit in the SP3/PMC twenty series room. Stunning!
What really impressed me, above and beyond the soundstage and the dynamics, was the quality and effortless cohesion to the sound. It was by far the best AV set up I heard on the day. It was quite likely the most expensive, though.
In the 2 channel PMC/Bryston rooms the BHA-1 sat in one and the twenty series/BDP-1/BDA-1/BP26 & 4B SST2 in the other.
They begun with the twenty 21. Initially I thought they were OK. But another track or two and Woah!
They are small, but a speaker that small has no right sounding so large. The dynamics came from no where, too.
I had a good chat (as always) with Keith and Tom. Informative & friendly they always are. I wanted to hear the twenty 24s, so Tom told me he would set them up for me nearer the end of the day. Back I ran with 15 minutes to the end & I had the room to myself. Immediately I could hear how much smoother and more cohesive this series is compared to the i series. They do have a more dry bass, but it is just as extended. The big plus for me is the far greater midrange warmth & clarity and......timing! Boy are they great here. My ears were astounded with their transient attack and the way in which they dealt with dynamics.
In terms of where they sit in the PMC range, sound quality wise, I think they are far closer to the fact range than they are to the i series. In fact(excuse the pun), I think they are a superb integration of the two. Timing, smoothness & cohesion of the fact range, along with the most of the bass warmth & extension of the i series.

    Kyri

Cheers Rich, amazing to think that there wasn't a Bryston thread over here when I bought my first piece of Bryston kit and started this thread, an ex dem BCD-1, which I've just replaced with a new shiny model, thought I'd get a new one Whilst I still could, but I think it's fair to say since starting this thread many of us have been on an interesting Bryston Journey and with everyone that posts on here it has been great fun, so I think the big thanks goes to all the guys that post and I can't wait to see what Bryston have in store for us all next :smashin:

This isn't particularly relevant other than I wondered what amplification was used at the event and how many 28B's it would take to fill the NEC as I went to see Rammstein last night, now I have been to hundreds of gigs over the last 25+ years but I have never seen anything like the show they put on, they have got to be the ultimate showman on the planet, totally unique, they all have degrees in pyrotechnics so you can imagine the stunts pulled, In this day and age I do wonder how they get away with it on health and safety grounds, they must have to turn off the smoke alarms for a start as at the end of the gig you couldn't see around the NEC for all the smoke, anyway if you get a chance to see them I highly recommend it, even if their music isn't your cup of tea it's worth going just for the show, here are a couple of pics, then I'll get back on topic, sorry, it's just so amazing I had to share :)

Thanks for the feedback on the show Kyri, the above is the main reason I stopped going to these shows as due to their location, ie hotel rooms, it is very difficult to get the true feel for the products, I always felt that the Naim rooms sounded good, as long as they weren't using their speakers and obviously the PMC/Bryston rooms always sounded good, other than that it is just a case of getting a chance to get up close and personal with certain products you wouldn't necessary get a chance to elsewhere, saying that I'm always tempted to try again every year

Glad you got a chance to hear the SP3 Kyri, will you go for green or blue LED's ;)

Did you listen to the BHA-1? can't wait to get my hands on one of these to compare to the headphone out on the SP3, what headphones were PMC demoing it with?

Well I thought me mentioning how awesome Rammstein were live last night was maybe a little of topic, turned out not to be the case as James just posted this on Audiocircle -

    Hi Vipers,

Last year I got a call from Richard Zven Kruspe the lead guitarist of Rammstein - he purchased a 4B SST2 for his personal system.

Obviously a band with good taste

    Hi Vipers,

I didn't actually get to hear the BHA-1. And I didn't catch which headphones either I'm afraid. I did intend to, but got into quite a conversation with Keith & Tom.

Yes, the SP3 is stunning. If I go that way I guess I'll need to stick with green, to match the rest. I look forward to hearing it again at the Zinc Open Day.

I'm itching to get the twenty 24s now & get them run in pronto!

    Kyri

It was a pair of Sennheiser HD800's. There was also another pair, but I didn't see what they were.

No probs regarding the BHA-1, I should have mine in time for the open day according to James so I'll bring my PS1000's in so you can have a good listen :)

We'll have the SP3 hooked upto the 24's for the open day along with the new centre so it should give you a pretty good idea how the SP3 will perform in your system, I'll make sure the one we borrow from PMC has green led's for you ;)

I did, but headphones don't do much for me. I only had a quick listen to see if the combo would instantly blow me away and convert me for life. I'll stick with the Blades :)

Did anyone who went to the show get a listen to the 22 series speakers? I have to agree that the 21 series speakers sound so damn 'big' for their size. I really like the 21's for stereo and would consider these for front channel LCR duties in a 5.1 set up.

I have compared both the 21 and 23 series (in stereo) and the PMC 23's sound better in the bass dept', that's for sure. I am wondering what the 22 series bring to the party when compared with the 23's.

    Any thoughts folks?
