i was going to go for the r3 boxset but asked a question on it then found out one of the titles doesnt have an english soundtrack, only an cantonese one :suicide:, so hoping this boxset has an english soundtrack on all the movies :)

I temporarily had the Bruce Lee 30th anniversary box-set and it is the nicest DVD package I have ever seen. A lovely box-set with a hardback book included inside.

As for the sound it's nothing particularly special with some of the films having 5.1 and others Dolby Digital 2.0 but you're hardly going to expect much from low-budget 1970s Hong Kong productions. The picture has been vastly improved and cleaned up a lot.

As Graham said they all have English and Cantonese soundtracks but God knows why you would want to watch it in English??? Cantonese with English subtitles is the only way to watch it!

I think the masses are with you on that one when it comes to foreign films. Personally subs are the only way to go. You'll be surprised how the feel and atmosphere of the whole film can change when heard in its proper tongue (btw way reminds me of another classic, Legend of Fong Sai Yuk compared to The Legend as aired on sky and R2, how awful). Although not all dubs are done badly by dodgy americans, the ones that are done well still often lack the emotion of the original soundtrack.

Anyway, i'll definitely check out this boxset.

there's also a Box set available which contains the original US Lobby cards, UK poster, Publicity Photo Stills, UK original press booklet with ads and press information from 1973, 35mm film cel. Plus the SE DVD (30th anniversary).

Think its available online and instore.

It's on the CDA label rather than Warner.

I agree with what you were saying about it changes the whole atmosphere of the film hearing it in the original language but sometimes the dubbed film can be saying something completely different giving you an almost completely different story.

I noticed one helluva difference between the legend of Fong Sai Yuk 2 and the legend 2, whereat the beginning of the film the mum is carrying soup and singing in the original language version but the dubbed English version it's more like she's just talking, giving a completely different feel.

Yeah true bom bom. Its the same when sometimes they have to 'condense' the dialogue and so they decide to change it altogether, or sometimes they add extra dialogue when there's nothing there. Its almost like watching a poor imitation. Anyway one of the great benefits of DVD, we can laugh at one soundtrack and watch the other.
