I watched Brotherhood of the Wolf for the second time the other day. I had always remembered it being a cool movie, but never watched it a second time incase a second viewing diluted the effect and spoiled my memory of the film; but on second viewing i couldn't believed i had waited so long to watch it again, as the movie is absolutely outstanding!

Somehow it manages to fuse horror, martial arts, period drama, romance and politics and yet still end up as a cohesive and stylish film that doesn't get boring at all during its two and a half hour running time.

The DTS soundtrack is also amazing, with thunderous levels of LFE which is used brilliantly to further enhance some of the "bullet time" style moments in the fighting scenes.

I don't know if many people have seen this movie, as it looks like it might have slipped under the radar in this country, but if you have, did you think it was as good as i've said?

I love the movie, seen it 3 times, own 3 different DVD versions...even the Dolby Soundtrack is Amazing, hope they bring this out in HD, the french name for it is "Le PActe Des Loups", it was released in the UK Cinemas in November 2001, and yes it as one of those great films that went buy un-noticed, I remember seeign a trailer for it a few times on it's release...

Yes Love the movie - A very rare thing in my books a Great french movie :D
Some superb Fight scenes and great Special effects plus of course the lovely Monica Bellucci naked always perks my interest ;)
    Fantastic DTS aswell.
The 3 disc Candian release is superb far better than the UK,US versions
as it includes the full directors cut and loads of extras. Admittedly the picture isnt as good as the french box set but that has no Eng subs.
Just stay away from the UK Special edition dvd as that has an even shorter cut of the movie on it, a very weird cut with scenes missing and scenes from the directors cut added in.

ah i'm glad i actually like a popular movie for a change ;) then again i watched Stealth tonight and thought it was alright, so i don't suppose it really counts for much... actually after tonight i think i'm less picky than razor when it comes to movies ;)

anyway. back on topic - i've got the 3 disc canadian release, i bought it from dvdboxoffice three or four years ago i think, its a bit annoying that discs 2 and 3 have french menu's but hey, it was aimed at quebec so i can't really hold it against them. It would also be nice if someone would create a dvd player with antialiased subtitles.. mine look like a font that got rejected for use on teletext for being too blocky

There definitely is another Canadian version with 3 discs. I got it from DVD Soon a couple of years ago. Just don't try ordering anything from them now however - see the dealer talk threads for discussion of their current "problems".

    Erm, o.k. :

    Witness
    Dead Poets Society
    Star Wars
    Pulp Fiction
    LOTR
    Leon
    Taxi Driver
    Excalibur
    A Clockwork Orange

Not sure what that is supposed to prove though. The guy upstairs (also a home cinema nut-we both have 7ft front projection systems) lent it me as an "excellent" movie. When I returned it and he asked me what I thought of it, he burst out laughing. He lent it to me as a joke, since it was so bad.

    All just opinion though.

I just got hold of the The Region 3 Korean Version of Brotherhood of the Wolf, this may be the best version yet, it's a 2 DVD Ultimate Edition, Disc 1 Contains the Movie and Commentry and Disk 2 Contains the Extras..

The Movie is in 2.35.1 Widescreen, has a Run time of 150 Minutes!!, longest i've seen so far and has French and English Dolby 5.1 Soundtracks and a French DTS 5.1 Soundtrack...has English and Korean Subs..
